Today I have another 3D printed mini to show off. A friend of mine printed this up for me after I found the file online. It's a Dark Angels, Ravenwing attack bike for the Horus Heresy/Warhammer 30,000.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG8y4yG8PU3J72UNUhxhMBey3DoqZ7O5mK1M6wI39Q4fPPcOZQIkPk79zMUtzy9-sC_IP6ZB_nhIPpmSkh8NK0F376kMn-BSXwM_cWDs_byudh8fQAVmW1Ksu_tZ5vWe2emoMUEX8ZTDrO/s1000/RW04.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="682" data-original-width="1000" height="272" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG8y4yG8PU3J72UNUhxhMBey3DoqZ7O5mK1M6wI39Q4fPPcOZQIkPk79zMUtzy9-sC_IP6ZB_nhIPpmSkh8NK0F376kMn-BSXwM_cWDs_byudh8fQAVmW1Ksu_tZ5vWe2emoMUEX8ZTDrO/w400-h272/RW04.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>Currently neither Games Workshop, nor Forge World offer a suitable 30K miniature of their own, but the rules for it have been around for years. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the hobby community took it upon themselves to design their own model and release the designs for free. As far as kits go, it looks great, but there are some parts that don't fit together perfectly (the gunner and the handles of the weapon for example). Still, it does the job very nicely</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzV1NDWe2psMnkC7bg4kOvIUWzh4qyCvrn38a1oQ8I2bo7KlWByWR_fSiqMnoQR3c3z_eQIntsK8s9WnmofGfQiPtWppryQIByx02K47J4K-XutXk7tkFdQwiiQEvSQ7M15uv-1Nc2FWi/s1000/RW02.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="797" data-original-width="1000" height="319" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSzV1NDWe2psMnkC7bg4kOvIUWzh4qyCvrn38a1oQ8I2bo7KlWByWR_fSiqMnoQR3c3z_eQIntsK8s9WnmofGfQiPtWppryQIByx02K47J4K-XutXk7tkFdQwiiQEvSQ7M15uv-1Nc2FWi/w400-h319/RW02.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>I've been playing about recently with adding extra weathering to my minis, paint chips along with dust and grime. In my imagination, battlefields of the grim dark future are probably pretty dirty places. I'm still getting the hang of the weathering powders, so I may have gone a bit overboard with them. A lot of it will probably rub off over time though, so I am not too worried.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO3MVlB3caw_UHBSMqmc2q5HNAIrk1fbxf-yRqpzaKXwohqVpSzegm4d1AZ-nH5hVO5dZUJDPSBTfkRWD9h35epkXJ9U6Wl0F1AUipU8Vt3bjATw5JVI72th_i_gNw51senBod1orMJEUp/s1000/RW01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="740" data-original-width="1000" height="296" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjO3MVlB3caw_UHBSMqmc2q5HNAIrk1fbxf-yRqpzaKXwohqVpSzegm4d1AZ-nH5hVO5dZUJDPSBTfkRWD9h35epkXJ9U6Wl0F1AUipU8Vt3bjATw5JVI72th_i_gNw51senBod1orMJEUp/w400-h296/RW01.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /></div><div>This marks the first mini for a Dark Angels Legion army (my 5th Heresy era force, though I haven't really finished any of them yet). Long time, no see.<br /><br /><div>My painting pace continues to be glacially slow, though I am making little bits of progress here and there. I have managed to finish up two Necron models for Warhammer 40,000. They are both from the Indomitus boxed set that was released to promote the new edition of Warhammer 40K. Not that I will ever go near that set of rules (I am happy sticking with a mix of 5th edition and home-brew to be honest), I just really, really wanted the new Necrons as they are absolutely gorgeous in my opinion.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuLNGMu_skl5GE2yVJJoaHjt3DJmLD2dhXfUd6_4EN45boZMKjSVsFhxB5XZwllCwMIT20-V4Y8FC-Rej1MmFO0_v524eVw9kDB10TmZ-EFsqTGZqBSAEFS745suROjodBcHm_fU8HBmOU/s1000/Necron1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="994" data-original-width="1000" height="398" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuLNGMu_skl5GE2yVJJoaHjt3DJmLD2dhXfUd6_4EN45boZMKjSVsFhxB5XZwllCwMIT20-V4Y8FC-Rej1MmFO0_v524eVw9kDB10TmZ-EFsqTGZqBSAEFS745suROjodBcHm_fU8HBmOU/w400-h398/Necron1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>This first chap is a Skorpekh Lord and is a massive hunk of mini. Standing twice the height of most other models in the game, this three legged, three armed, death-dealing monstrosity is the best of the new models for me. I'd like to get another one, but GW are unlikely to ever release a more modular figure with variant weapons and poses, which is a shame as there is a lot you could potentially do with it. </div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIDMX1nKR-Fxt4bq1Cgy_AK2EYh-cBCsAQ5_NagVW7ls1ga_Ku7yV63pQbdsDdjOIgQdf0JjkW5hIUOkDWL0GD1SIfgzRnsI3fuJJPPIiiifCk2j3U6V1Yn7Ksu0lKewuCNuqq3nw2DtCL/s1000/Necron2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="726" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiIDMX1nKR-Fxt4bq1Cgy_AK2EYh-cBCsAQ5_NagVW7ls1ga_Ku7yV63pQbdsDdjOIgQdf0JjkW5hIUOkDWL0GD1SIfgzRnsI3fuJJPPIiiifCk2j3U6V1Yn7Ksu0lKewuCNuqq3nw2DtCL/s320/Necron2.JPG" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>To accompany him is a Plasmancer, one of the Necron's mysterious caste of Crypteks, mad scientists with otherworldly weapons designed to wreak maximum carnage. The designers have done a good job of making this model look like it's hovering just above the ground. Whereas the Skorpekh has a leg to spare, the Plasmancer has none at all.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Eep_cMmBZrsbyTp5QW6ek6HCRXRawBkwhrpPsMaD2Y3hS-HZxlhajXf_pp1YCInXz1GKlrh3Yt0yQo9nJFl2qfgKaRbV7BXVIeBuHDAId5KmUPqgOEn9g6OqC3uz30lLLaEgWfiLd1oJ/s1000/Necron3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="684" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2Eep_cMmBZrsbyTp5QW6ek6HCRXRawBkwhrpPsMaD2Y3hS-HZxlhajXf_pp1YCInXz1GKlrh3Yt0yQo9nJFl2qfgKaRbV7BXVIeBuHDAId5KmUPqgOEn9g6OqC3uz30lLLaEgWfiLd1oJ/s320/Necron3.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div>I have had these guys primed and ready since before the winter challenge, so it is good to get them out of the 'to do' pile and into the 'done' pile. Sadly (or happily depending on how you look at it), the former still outweighs the latter. </div><div><br /></div><div>And that's it from me for now. I have another batch of minis that are in need of a spot of weathering and then will be finished off. Fingers crossed I can get them done and dusted sometime soon.</div>StuartLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15444896905018403197noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3909798977391741861.post-66439693253710176832021-06-07T13:02:00.000-07:002021-06-07T13:02:57.691-07:00Christopher Sliter: Mexican Regular Infantry<p> </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS6tzjHT3LZyLAUcXY43UiVBvPUsojDXI2n6bjfy5_Qpq-cUcYiR3FF8hOtnAt8DOCoZDHuo5Sq3-xhGneYpEZ0kG2hO2NXthBobtBbneDoOJD5UqQQDMOfNsIAXi_hIWTYypMurSPTA/s1000/P1030192.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="371" data-original-width="1000" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS6tzjHT3LZyLAUcXY43UiVBvPUsojDXI2n6bjfy5_Qpq-cUcYiR3FF8hOtnAt8DOCoZDHuo5Sq3-xhGneYpEZ0kG2hO2NXthBobtBbneDoOJD5UqQQDMOfNsIAXi_hIWTYypMurSPTA/w400-h149/P1030192.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><p>A return back to my Texas War Of Independence project I briefly started last year I think. (10points)<p> Hoi,</p><p> </p><p>Yup it happened, I have received that first jab everyone is talking about. It came sooner then expected and the second one is planned already. This means that I now have to drop out of this Challenge and I thought it fitting to paint up a figure I would be able to sent to the Far North as a tribute to our great leader: his Curtship himself. </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0XS3bcvLX0gjmyE21Rtqficb6tR3qNQszRR6IY3ZY8brZZGs6iu_TtWhAQEvN70CgRo9FPuYrzAeqT06p7NZtxnwdVqlLn37H7_V6ViwRKFFx4WgjmyDj2W9hHn1mQstMRX-n2eskRqYX/s1024/P1120055.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="693" data-original-width="1024" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0XS3bcvLX0gjmyE21Rtqficb6tR3qNQszRR6IY3ZY8brZZGs6iu_TtWhAQEvN70CgRo9FPuYrzAeqT06p7NZtxnwdVqlLn37H7_V6ViwRKFFx4WgjmyDj2W9hHn1mQstMRX-n2eskRqYX/s320/P1120055.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><p></p><p>That means it needs to be a yello-purple coloured Landsknecht figure and I had a good look around. While I have found several sets of figures that would suit the bill, I think for now this figure will suffice. Last Challenge wasn't complete without my partner in Landsknecht-crime the esteemed Lord Michael of Awdry Towers, so I decided that I would paint him one of the self same figures as well. Now the figure might be a bit cheeky, saucy or even racy and so I texted a photo of one of them to Michael to ask him whether Curt would take offense at being given a lady dressed like this... his opinion was that Curt could probably appreciate the sentiment. "Good" I said "because guess who's getting one too?" Well gentelemen I hope you like them because they will soon be travelling the waves towards Awdry Towers and the Blue Ice Caves in Canada.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjx8NnBymSjSX9fQhbBH8EBJj8tZU_xQEgO6lMaZ9YaXyEHbo0-j5ffb6izhITc4WPYG5Zhn59gqwkymA3a5-YAfjt_SOIr_D-NUgN4nzazf-S8i_ZEgkzfKYooae1NlUWCtghu5FvvN40Z/s1024/P1120030.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; These are Reanimate Archers from the FFG's Runewars Miniature Game. Local store had the starter box on 65% discount, so the game including 48 miniatures cost only 42 euroes. I couldn't skip the offer and I bought one box to share with a friend. That is very cost and space effective way to purchase games, you can use this if you have issues with other parts in your family. It might not be a bulletproof, if you tell that after buying the initial box you bought a second one to split and some extension boxes as well... Anyway, we quickly assembled to the first box and played two learning games and decided, that it is nice fun for the afternoons, quite a boardgamelike miniature game in the end, very much X-Wing.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJgOoTnGuNRj56FUqldQ5yPAXvavsX0bOyETgvDvarC69jvf4TtMm8BWGxqv8DAHOkXliEvI3KSse0-v9Rbjur02lgtZrvzBgv03qh0y5e5N74PQdPk2R1Cqz2_yLe7w8AQEFihVoeyRU/s999/20210603_141524.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="516" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJgOoTnGuNRj56FUqldQ5yPAXvavsX0bOyETgvDvarC69jvf4TtMm8BWGxqv8DAHOkXliEvI3KSse0-v9Rbjur02lgtZrvzBgv03qh0y5e5N74PQdPk2R1Cqz2_yLe7w8AQEFihVoeyRU/s320/20210603_141524.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>The miniatures are soft boardgame plastic and require super glue to be assembled, but on the other hand there were no mould lines (I could see) and assembling was rather easy. There were several poses as well, for example this unit of 8 archers has 4 different poses. A bit of bending and gluing into different angle hides the duplicates quite well. By the rule book, the miniatures are not glued to the trays, but removed as casualties. Anyway, we are playing this game in relaxed mode and decided that we can glue them and use counters, dice etc. The bases looks much better this way. I just need to hide the rings better on the next batch.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT78-b4FXd5NITuNLvQw2IKbzfkumEhthcNUBHzEmkFVpt3ZIkS4IxrX1p9B0xn9bcppk4viu5WlDAz-EJ_EcQX7EygLtxnjpTn94MVaTGB6iXkRNxPPTR_w6x1JzaS1msjoy0ddXHHtg/s999/20210603_141534.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="519" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT78-b4FXd5NITuNLvQw2IKbzfkumEhthcNUBHzEmkFVpt3ZIkS4IxrX1p9B0xn9bcppk4viu5WlDAz-EJ_EcQX7EygLtxnjpTn94MVaTGB6iXkRNxPPTR_w6x1JzaS1msjoy0ddXHHtg/s320/20210603_141534.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p>I wanted some quick and simple paint schemes, so I decide to use Contrast paints. They worked very well on these skeletons. Each area has just one coat of Contrast over Wraithbone spray, no highlights, no shades, inks, drybrushes or anything. Only the arrow tips are painted in metallic. The bases are Agrellan Earth with some Army Painter tufts. As you can, see they look quite great for such a speed paint job. I'm looking forward to paint more of these and play more with these.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggQcXEjv_Bio3768_kZ4qxcnvxUQEU0eo_fl6dbT_ttFEA5K4tut8XdahdUGnddU_d8xAQon0bNhEgYs2-L_BsVAD-PXsYv3aDjXWdf2wHK8lSm2YkUBUVj4E25e3FuhzJ3srngNcvvT4/s999/20210603_141550.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="561" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggQcXEjv_Bio3768_kZ4qxcnvxUQEU0eo_fl6dbT_ttFEA5K4tut8XdahdUGnddU_d8xAQon0bNhEgYs2-L_BsVAD-PXsYv3aDjXWdf2wHK8lSm2YkUBUVj4E25e3FuhzJ3srngNcvvT4/s320/20210603_141550.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />This is my final post for this Challenge, the XII will start (hopefully) in about six months, so not too much time to change all the plans. As a matter of fact almost two weeks ago, and I have been struggling to get some painting done. As a typical Belgian autumn has suddenly turned into a typical Belgian tropical summer my painting mojo has slipped below the horizon, however, so the planned out-with-a-bang post has turned into a rather disappointing sizzle.</p><p>Still, I have this rather interesting figure for you, advertised as a Fly Trap. I'm not sure yet whether is a plant or an animal, it has a bit of both. It is once again from the Scourge of Valtan Forest Kickstarter. I painted it using Citadel Contrast and Scale75 Instant Colours. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw8YlEwT4GeLSig02jvHQPVhKkNnASogatVGtw__Mt2IJXLt4Q0CMwgR9ErR-3VznUnNKBQTAUsMrhFz415eveBkP6W0gXFhPdNqXoHjMLEQBm5kngOQ6VVWujhHEjnYq2pupujgeggby6/s2048/IMG_3814.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjw8YlEwT4GeLSig02jvHQPVhKkNnASogatVGtw__Mt2IJXLt4Q0CMwgR9ErR-3VznUnNKBQTAUsMrhFz415eveBkP6W0gXFhPdNqXoHjMLEQBm5kngOQ6VVWujhHEjnYq2pupujgeggby6/s320/IMG_3814.JPG" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzNEpnUn8dv8PHNIVpIiTl9r6RWgysPcPjyWCXjDimwDaQEvfbf351YciDKPDw35-TYRqH2kGjxV6hfHp5UeB_jyOFHyjLsEzjRSExplWIaTAgXZmRAUXsU-zqHmOJ96X3Gz8RF2KASZBu/s2048/IMG_3815.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzNEpnUn8dv8PHNIVpIiTl9r6RWgysPcPjyWCXjDimwDaQEvfbf351YciDKPDw35-TYRqH2kGjxV6hfHp5UeB_jyOFHyjLsEzjRSExplWIaTAgXZmRAUXsU-zqHmOJ96X3Gz8RF2KASZBu/s320/IMG_3815.JPG" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>So there we are. As it is technically a 28mm figure I will award myself 5 points for it, which brings my total of the Vaccination Challenge to 276 points. Not as much as I would have liked, but still mildly satisfying.</p><p>Obviously, I will keep following the Vaccination Challenge. Thanks to all who looked at my posts and commented on them; much appreciated! I hope that numbers in the Vaccination Challenge may dwindle swiftly as we all get our vaccines. I look forward to seeing you all again at the end of the year in the "proper" Challenge! As much fun as the Vaccination Challenge has been, I would rather that it be a one-time experience. Take care!</p>Emjenichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09306203060333974370noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3909798977391741861.post-38672971686905114562021-06-01T03:09:00.000-07:002021-06-01T03:09:45.590-07:00From StuartL - Unleashing the 3D Printed Demons Hello again.<div>I'm steadily (and very slowly) pushing on with my to do pile. There is still no chance of me getting the vaccine anytime soon as the roll-out here in Japan is incredibly slow.</div><div>In the meantime I have painted up my first 3D printed minis. A friend of mine recently bought one of these modern marvels and printed up some figures for me. I have to say that I am impressed by the quality of the minis.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbpPnTx97u4_rP9ByqL_4-4Z_N25dChNQNSH84qI0yu2EBRvRz7F5Br-6vD9ltYHFm4iX3bsexlBpChAqGofGEYk7Y9ZBTNMaDs9_A5qYo0wJonfv-wqoI_sul_01k83fg_wg3-FSWLOdj/s1000/Oni1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="805" data-original-width="1000" height="323" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbpPnTx97u4_rP9ByqL_4-4Z_N25dChNQNSH84qI0yu2EBRvRz7F5Br-6vD9ltYHFm4iX3bsexlBpChAqGofGEYk7Y9ZBTNMaDs9_A5qYo0wJonfv-wqoI_sul_01k83fg_wg3-FSWLOdj/w400-h323/Oni1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>I'm trying to put together a collection of Samurai-era Fantasy models to use for Saga: Age of Magic and saw these Oni figures online. My friend was kind enough to print them out for me. They are from a designer called Artisan Guild and they are very nice indeed. The two headed chap above is on a 50mm base, as is the black fellow below. The red boys and girls are all on 40mm bases, so you can get an idea of scale.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbK6zC9Xik2zRLFxcxBQtumP8LJlAS7_T2jm6bsG3RIs2ug95hVfyNaKfXGp-J-DzibOVnlaIsYGw_jFqoP-qcMVOAcX1rvVtS3ZS3ODDijKu3af-CQjD1XcDjYGu8NVhznNj2Bspy7NSi/s1000/Oni2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="726" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbK6zC9Xik2zRLFxcxBQtumP8LJlAS7_T2jm6bsG3RIs2ug95hVfyNaKfXGp-J-DzibOVnlaIsYGw_jFqoP-qcMVOAcX1rvVtS3ZS3ODDijKu3af-CQjD1XcDjYGu8NVhznNj2Bspy7NSi/w290-h400/Oni2.JPG" width="290" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>These figures have all been printed on a resin printer, so I was dubious at first as I really, <i>really</i> don't like working with resin. Thankfully my friend had done most of the clean-up work after the printing and I just had a few odd supports to trim off. The detail is really good and the figures went together perfectly on the first try. Unlike traditional resin casting, there were no bubbles and no warping to be seen. A couple of the models have very faint lines where the printer didn't quite line things up perfectly, but they are barely noticeable once painted.</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpNeL0JhyphenhyphenIBJNLF0ZZIpRjxPGVcNZVybvvENwTX2mrVVmsY_8Jza8BpHjmiCLJIX6hjP_eoa9rhZ0rfWNpCs-W_nGMjg4lYafstj5OnGFgsTmhFI8RGU-ppmBCPIQdxtII3Xq7gy9irQhq/s1000/Oni3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="502" data-original-width="1000" height="201" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpNeL0JhyphenhyphenIBJNLF0ZZIpRjxPGVcNZVybvvENwTX2mrVVmsY_8Jza8BpHjmiCLJIX6hjP_eoa9rhZ0rfWNpCs-W_nGMjg4lYafstj5OnGFgsTmhFI8RGU-ppmBCPIQdxtII3Xq7gy9irQhq/w400-h201/Oni3.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br /><div>The figures are all very characterful and are great for skirmish type games. I would still prefer plastic for more rank and file, mass-battle games, but I'm sold on the benefits of 3D printing. Sadly due to the number of chemicals and the smell they produce I don't think my wife will ever let me get a 3D printer myself, which is probably for the best. Having the ability to produce armies of minis from home will eventually lead to me having to buy an extension (or two) for my house.</div><div><br /></div><div>I'll keep plugging away at the lead mountain. Finger crossed there will be more to come from my painting table soon. </div>StuartLhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15444896905018403197noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3909798977391741861.post-87393763284668376192021-06-01T00:56:00.007-07:002021-06-04T23:17:58.666-07:00From TeemuL: Sheriff's office, heavy weapons and an aeroplane (90 points)<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">Here's my second last post. I'll get my first dose on Wednesday and I have some unfinished minis on the table. I'll finish them and post tomorrow, I hope.</span></p><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">But in the meanwhile I have been cleaning my table of half-finished projects. Here's a Sheriff's office from Warbases. I started this during the main Challenge and I was hoping to finish it for one of my Wild West entries, but time run out and it went to the backburner. It is ready now, not super pretty, but functional. I didn't really think about the colors when I painted, I was kind of "in the character" of the wild west house builders... It was easy to assemble and the roof can be removed, so the interior can be seen. Excellent for jail break scenarios.</span></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKJMhE4UcHhl8GNM1u_FjITGRMWrxRaMt006HfbZO6R3GwtGAMc5X1DBUgs5DNIJsRrYBNK31PS8Yobp9O2YThyN2dVc6zhLxVYTorzzHuJnY1Ulbszu-ZyX6_IFfWEbCzfmPNfHJoHMg/s999/20210530_192550.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="614" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKJMhE4UcHhl8GNM1u_FjITGRMWrxRaMt006HfbZO6R3GwtGAMc5X1DBUgs5DNIJsRrYBNK31PS8Yobp9O2YThyN2dVc6zhLxVYTorzzHuJnY1Ulbszu-ZyX6_IFfWEbCzfmPNfHJoHMg/s320/20210530_192550.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafJZI1rQuhcJbDwkPtzQM3RRVh-kDC-d4Wp9JZgSpImbPRplo4H2pFEwq9HEZKGRowQQ7dumaFqLkD2mhsB4cEr1fhsI7yJMVwwZQsKmJW5R0LtT6yqVLys2lVZy0Bho62lrTrHyxU68/s999/20210530_192529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="639" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafJZI1rQuhcJbDwkPtzQM3RRVh-kDC-d4Wp9JZgSpImbPRplo4H2pFEwq9HEZKGRowQQ7dumaFqLkD2mhsB4cEr1fhsI7yJMVwwZQsKmJW5R0LtT6yqVLys2lVZy0Bho62lrTrHyxU68/s320/20210530_192529.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIdZhKctVYN8P11DoyC313yPM5QEyLRm7yLETaq_cCsJavMsY6IwDOWCp_k4REhUaottigdxz7mpdwuTvwmlvwLsJAEEoFIgvx2lLICIZLHKph9YekFzb5R3f6IXWDx2JAnITaM4lmARw/s999/20210530_192511.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="584" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIdZhKctVYN8P11DoyC313yPM5QEyLRm7yLETaq_cCsJavMsY6IwDOWCp_k4REhUaottigdxz7mpdwuTvwmlvwLsJAEEoFIgvx2lLICIZLHKph9YekFzb5R3f6IXWDx2JAnITaM4lmARw/s320/20210530_192511.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><p><span style="font-family: helvetica;">This one is a Nieuport 17 biplane for WW1. I started this scale model during the Challenge 10, continued during the Quarantee Challenge, worked a little after that, did something during Challenge 11 and it is now ready. I'm not sure if it actually fits in the puritan view of the Challenge, but it is kind of toy and I painted it, so why not. :) Now, any 1/32 scale WW1 dogfight rules anywhere? Empty sheds? Anything? This is from Academy Hobby Model Kits bought six years ago from an Event. Do you remember those? I'm not superhappy with the decals, the big ones are a bit too big and I'm quite sure I could have painted some of the freehand anyway. On the other hand, they were much easier to put in place than the GW decals for example, very easy to use. The paintingi is from the insctuctions, although I didn't have the exact paints and not all the necessary hues, but it looks pretty in the photos. In the real life it is not that pretty, but it will do. Oh, and this was the first time I glued strings to represent various cables and stuff. Tricky business that, not perfect, but looks better than without.</span></p><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6yF0xvCpU50SUlRwgJEdZvSAkx7T09Uo4dzmpRRO2sqodSM_0zJrtY_RT4nDYkix0mGmOeEMTH5i_ag9JKd96IlIGSHv-9A7fedar-ug5q4gW8kiBZ_z7bHxqHT1uOEUMvYW9Oh7X9Vc/s999/20210530_192420.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="666" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6yF0xvCpU50SUlRwgJEdZvSAkx7T09Uo4dzmpRRO2sqodSM_0zJrtY_RT4nDYkix0mGmOeEMTH5i_ag9JKd96IlIGSHv-9A7fedar-ug5q4gW8kiBZ_z7bHxqHT1uOEUMvYW9Oh7X9Vc/s320/20210530_192420.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRljFIVLrhAYm3u3_4tovp4xC4qNHMCZ3DSrRbhD0VNs8zkdfxk4Z8HKlHBWaSgYI-QrROruYWiwULS_DU4BlDaReAeOhy2pCe3-ccgu_BmmA7e5L134GDt7aUAeSej1GEkOzXy8AD7m4/s999/20210530_192411.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRljFIVLrhAYm3u3_4tovp4xC4qNHMCZ3DSrRbhD0VNs8zkdfxk4Z8HKlHBWaSgYI-QrROruYWiwULS_DU4BlDaReAeOhy2pCe3-ccgu_BmmA7e5L134GDt7aUAeSej1GEkOzXy8AD7m4/s320/20210530_192411.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtTb4pITlSEMIDJ3mKaeRXFRqgAZImpMyxs7sEEjR-4n0XTY6t7DPfhqoY1MOQolE5VIB_trtL6xja2r7fIsehaijGP_rjKloFjFBTTCBtAV_0uYiZNQNypvbqr4xnvgxan7VWcbaBjrg/s999/20210530_192405.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><img border="0" data-original-height="712" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtTb4pITlSEMIDJ3mKaeRXFRqgAZImpMyxs7sEEjR-4n0XTY6t7DPfhqoY1MOQolE5VIB_trtL6xja2r7fIsehaijGP_rjKloFjFBTTCBtAV_0uYiZNQNypvbqr4xnvgxan7VWcbaBjrg/s320/20210530_192405.jpg" width="320" /></span></a></div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><div><span style="font-family: helvetica;"><br /></span></div>And finally three heavy weapon squads for my Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) Imperial Reenactment 7th. This is a resin figure from Forge World...which is part of GW, but still separate...or something...I really don't get that, but I digress.</p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv_qNbrqIguG1YXgK1a-bwoARiu9KC5I3wEmZMKRE97Hj2k8DyAq3bPC-CvkwAFZSsh5S9OKR92GcIOX4Z1dcNOQtXMogwh-jEtssIqxX6j-jWBxDfvqUSBNe2DUAWmWhaJTQ4P2Zodf3j/s1406/IMG_9491.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1406" data-original-width="1232" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv_qNbrqIguG1YXgK1a-bwoARiu9KC5I3wEmZMKRE97Hj2k8DyAq3bPC-CvkwAFZSsh5S9OKR92GcIOX4Z1dcNOQtXMogwh-jEtssIqxX6j-jWBxDfvqUSBNe2DUAWmWhaJTQ4P2Zodf3j/w350-h400/IMG_9491.JPG" width="350" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Guns drawn, ready to fire...and the helmet of a previous victim lying on the base...<br /></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br />So what is a "Moritat"? Well, the "Horus Heresy" was a giant civil war which tore the Imperium apart. Space Marine Legions fought against Space Marine Legions, and the fighting caused the odd Space Marine here and there to crack up a bit, the nature of the conflict being such that it wrecked the careful mental/psychological conditioning/programming that was part of their creation. While still physically fit, such mentally damaged Marines could no longer be fully relied upon to fight effectively as part of their units, and so were pulled from the battle line. The Legions would never "waste" an asset, however - a Space Marine is still a Space Marine...and so such mentally fractured Marines are made in "Moritats", and sent to battle as one-man armies. Not suicide missions per se...just loners at the fringe of the battle plan. If they survive, great. If not...well, they will still have cause serious issues for the enemies of the Legion.<br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj73-hYawKmVKgBE3WVjQaCkpXfbAqnO3sNc4TXQhmAAFhyYChMhB8tuSl0eR3Ub7JCqngXLRMSUxT8bRlzDGpQlPY6KuFygASkF0h-6ZLXUxgSOe6lcj8Mrp4AVdULdQf-ggz_YXZSdg5i/s1280/IMG_9492.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1280" data-original-width="1186" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj73-hYawKmVKgBE3WVjQaCkpXfbAqnO3sNc4TXQhmAAFhyYChMhB8tuSl0eR3Ub7JCqngXLRMSUxT8bRlzDGpQlPY6KuFygASkF0h-6ZLXUxgSOe6lcj8Mrp4AVdULdQf-ggz_YXZSdg5i/w370-h400/IMG_9492.JPG" width="370" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">The cabling is a pain the @ss...some crude "green stuff" repairs were needed - I've got no skill using "green stuff", but you have to start somewhere? It has been waiting for paint for just over a year - I first assembled it during my previous burst of 30k output, in spring last year. There was a particular challenge with this figure - the cables running from the weapons to the backpack of the armour. Resin features like this are not easy to assemble, and even with careful use of hot water etc. the cables can break because they need to be bent/turned into position. That happened here, requiring "green stuff" to be used for repairs on one of the cables. I have almost NO experience using "green stuff" to do anything, so my repair execution was pretty crude...but it still worked enough to get the figure into the line.</p><p>Thanks for reading everyone - hope you are well! <br /></p>Greg Bhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05090722688748673409noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3909798977391741861.post-59916135737665939162021-05-25T09:27:00.004-07:002021-05-25T09:27:58.548-07:00From TeemuL: Genestealer Cultists (15 points)<p>Tomorrow I'll be able to book my first vaccination, but I have no idea how fast I can actually have it. Actually I don't know what they actually are, these are the first ones I painted, which look like this. They came from the Deathwatch Overkill box by Games Workshop. I have a small army of these guys now, more than enough for Kill Team, not enough for Deathwatch Overkill and definitely not enough for WH40K (even for a small crusade). My color theme for these is the purple skin with light blue eyes, tongues and robes with green protective suits - armored kind of things are drybrushed with blue, the other parts with yellow to get some variation. Much of the equipment is painted with pale white and everything is washed with Drucharii Violet before the drybrush or highlights (even the metal parts). I seem to use Drucharii Violet for many things, these Genestealers, my Sylvaneths and even for my Death Guard. But it gives a nice tone and shadow effect, which I like.</p><p>Thanks for reading, next time something with no violet! It looks like it will still be quite a while before any meaningful vaccine supplies make their way to my part of Northern Ontario here in Canada, so I hope you won't mind seeing a few more submissions...for this one, we continue with the war machines of Games Workshop's grim and dark future. These particular machines are "Knights" - specifically, "Acastus" Knights. They are multi-part plastic kits from GW, part of the model range for the game <i>Adeptus Titanicu</i>s.</p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhufPjLzWzSOn6EHp3PLJvHz4xgCLj1Af5KmUOaDIryPAxerOvGG4csmfs2BrNA3qRWk56vLeHgkEdRvUHsuavLGHtLWK6Sk8QhK6ahaJD6SXmEiYONiVie0GkDhzZT-DLrH0No0VIpaZ8b/s1536/IMG_9426.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1352" data-original-width="1536" height="353" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhufPjLzWzSOn6EHp3PLJvHz4xgCLj1Af5KmUOaDIryPAxerOvGG4csmfs2BrNA3qRWk56vLeHgkEdRvUHsuavLGHtLWK6Sk8QhK6ahaJD6SXmEiYONiVie0GkDhzZT-DLrH0No0VIpaZ8b/w400-h353/IMG_9426.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Rear view showing the armour plates on the back of the torso and legs.<br /></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br />What is a "Knight" in the dark sci-fi world of GW? No horses here. It is, rather, yet another large walking war machine. Of course, in the grim darkness of the future, "large" is a relative concept...you see, the Knights are large war machines - they would tower over normal humans. But they are nonetheless small compared to the massive Titans. Knights only have a single pilot. The weapons mounted on a Knight, while destructive to enemy vehicles, infantry and fortifications, have a limited impact compared to the neighbourhood-and-city crushing armaments of the large battle Titans like the <a href="https://thequarantinechallenge.blogspot.com/2021/05/from-gregb-reaver-titan-for-adeptus.html" target="_blank">Reaver class example I posted last week</a>.</p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS4yQ566hHnyj8keCa3gbbidSJPeKpv7ogdcybNni9DttkszfENTdkps_tMsC6CmPnRCjgxH1S6BiqKFsvLqblHKKJRVqp3JPsqABF_hbs2Tg1XeYLEa7CHaBIEuIahtmeWOBiJIC3U8q7/s1510/IMG_9427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1510" data-original-width="1268" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiS4yQ566hHnyj8keCa3gbbidSJPeKpv7ogdcybNni9DttkszfENTdkps_tMsC6CmPnRCjgxH1S6BiqKFsvLqblHKKJRVqp3JPsqABF_hbs2Tg1XeYLEa7CHaBIEuIahtmeWOBiJIC3U8q7/w336-h400/IMG_9427.JPG" width="336" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Energy weapons ready to blast enemies to particles.<br /></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br />In the world of GW's <i>Adeptus Titanicus</i>, the Knights are organized into "households", pseudo-medieval orders which serve as a sort of combat auxilia to the Titan Legions. Thus when the Titans go to battle, the Princeps of the great war engines are often accompanied by groups of Knights. These machines need to act carefully on the battlefield where Titans are present, but when used with cunning they can be a serious pain for your enemies. They can harry flanks and distract opponents - and if they get close to the enemy Titans, they can cause critical damage and even score kills on their much larger opponents. <br /></p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuuPMeSAtUJkkF7PANiChPq995GZ99SohRRB__qnmQuqzoG7L6viDKruJJxAVKz7Dwkmv9QeDeF0SWfMfUypXguu1GxDMo_J60On7BRadzs81FlCqJ4u0cHBmyxNxIEC7fD2YxpeCwUKUl/s1804/IMG_9428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1322" data-original-width="1804" height="294" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuuPMeSAtUJkkF7PANiChPq995GZ99SohRRB__qnmQuqzoG7L6viDKruJJxAVKz7Dwkmv9QeDeF0SWfMfUypXguu1GxDMo_J60On7BRadzs81FlCqJ4u0cHBmyxNxIEC7fD2YxpeCwUKUl/w400-h294/IMG_9428.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">There are some rocket launchers mounted on the top of the hull...you can model them closed up, but where is the fun in that? :)</span><br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br />There are many, many different classes of Knight available. These Acastus Knights are the largest class of Knight available...about as large as a Knight can get, nearly, but not quite as large as the small "scout" Titans. As such, the weapon systems on them hit hard, and their armour is a bit more robust. Acastus Knights can certainly threaten enemy Titans, and even take a bit of a beating, but are not as mobile (even if they are much more mobile than the huge Titans). These two Knights are painted in the red-and-black-gold colours I use for the loyalist Knights in my Adeptus Titanicus collection.</p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2aCnfmoHgqMz2B-rAfH6G1i9EcbAR2rUZ1_-wSeEhbSmDZesVY3fg-64WXJ-LLpdK-N0ebTUxUU63l7kv6Tw6NjKuNRN0JLSP7Sl9v89wQERUgqWXWIekOWwKk2lAOigsJnSUABkOIUpf/s1726/IMG_9425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1434" data-original-width="1726" height="333" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2aCnfmoHgqMz2B-rAfH6G1i9EcbAR2rUZ1_-wSeEhbSmDZesVY3fg-64WXJ-LLpdK-N0ebTUxUU63l7kv6Tw6NjKuNRN0JLSP7Sl9v89wQERUgqWXWIekOWwKk2lAOigsJnSUABkOIUpf/w400-h333/IMG_9425.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Ready to fight in the name of The Emperor. If you are one of those folks, you will be blown away by these kits. The detail is insane - you even get a choice of different auxiliary weapons (either lascannons or autocannons). I painted these in the similar colors as my dryads, the wooden part is pale purple, leaves are metallic red and skin is yellowish purple. The aim is have angry looking fellows and I think I have succeeded. These sculpts are quite angry looking themselves, but the the painting enhances that. The bases are dark brown mud, kind of a swamp with some skulls. The colorful things represent spiritfolk, they are bright colored, but monocolored. You might guess, they are simple Contrast jobs.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfBUyFrQ6pEhFtRaV8c9BBPtU-xPKxhC3R-M3S9wDn0flwdskM3pEUi_X7ahuMZJzaQ_8Ssvf9I2wRKTM3ZofdaVnp5ZcIbYRKVlbEk2ZrazcG4t_AoRFSz8dizxZ2yAClFMdZVecj8N4/s999/20210517_174945.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="561" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhfBUyFrQ6pEhFtRaV8c9BBPtU-xPKxhC3R-M3S9wDn0flwdskM3pEUi_X7ahuMZJzaQ_8Ssvf9I2wRKTM3ZofdaVnp5ZcIbYRKVlbEk2ZrazcG4t_AoRFSz8dizxZ2yAClFMdZVecj8N4/s320/20210517_174945.jpg" width="320" /></a> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuypQpi7P_rZ8URPZ1X7H8ZS18FCeBJYJ6c26vKIPE6wjPfpo4fCNMs480J4AxzygQBQedPT6fTTJYa7TmrkSOxvAx8YMJc0DsYzvn1NgtQKJrTc7xPVOgLFkqVSztBV1cpps9UyzakZs/s999/20210517_175020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="561" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuypQpi7P_rZ8URPZ1X7H8ZS18FCeBJYJ6c26vKIPE6wjPfpo4fCNMs480J4AxzygQBQedPT6fTTJYa7TmrkSOxvAx8YMJc0DsYzvn1NgtQKJrTc7xPVOgLFkqVSztBV1cpps9UyzakZs/s320/20210517_175020.jpg" width="320" /></a><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuypQpi7P_rZ8URPZ1X7H8ZS18FCeBJYJ6c26vKIPE6wjPfpo4fCNMs480J4AxzygQBQedPT6fTTJYa7TmrkSOxvAx8YMJc0DsYzvn1NgtQKJrTc7xPVOgLFkqVSztBV1cpps9UyzakZs/s999/20210517_175020.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"></a></div></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEithenkyJ27KLjYZLmR_KkNAq44kbgw9xGmwmxBobRjofinf8kE9Bf99MV_oVzHGwf8MDphbeRgmHbgNdtmBziUFU5Pf1BeWo4jPDD9xSffCCOEuae5GSMEjjUdXlTnjNZ-cnKtbLgvUX4/s999/20210517_174958.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="561" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEithenkyJ27KLjYZLmR_KkNAq44kbgw9xGmwmxBobRjofinf8kE9Bf99MV_oVzHGwf8MDphbeRgmHbgNdtmBziUFU5Pf1BeWo4jPDD9xSffCCOEuae5GSMEjjUdXlTnjNZ-cnKtbLgvUX4/s320/20210517_174958.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />No idea about my vaccination, but my next post is almost ready. I try to alternate between a unit of Russians/ Germans and something I like to paint for myself, today it's time for some more Russians. I batch paint them by priming colour and these chaps are all based in Valejo English Uniform since they all wear the padded/ insulated winter gear so typical for Russians at the Eastern front. It's been far too long since I last posted. Sorry.<br /><br />Over the past few weeks, I have been busy with hobby stuff, just not really very much painting. I've been assembling minis and drafting up army lists (handily doing double duty as shopping lists) and all of the other things that go into this wonderful hobby of ours. I have done <i>some</i> painting, but my inner Squirrel has had me start a batch of minis, get distracted, put them to the side, start another bunch and so on. Thankfully some of those batches have started to get close to completion, so I do have something to post today and a bit more to come sooner rather than later.<div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXNfPtbjJtDWO40Gy2VDHpNgbyoyyY4FPnaYgKE4t_UewBW9UdcRKwMNa5TRqFWR7Wgya2zMHxqL_2hmGqSkaAfj9_s6zGabXsEbc2YkI6DrDbGNP8sO3T0PwU_-AvSgzbFo-_QRFk0J0G/s1000/Cyclops1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="984" data-original-width="1000" height="394" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXNfPtbjJtDWO40Gy2VDHpNgbyoyyY4FPnaYgKE4t_UewBW9UdcRKwMNa5TRqFWR7Wgya2zMHxqL_2hmGqSkaAfj9_s6zGabXsEbc2YkI6DrDbGNP8sO3T0PwU_-AvSgzbFo-_QRFk0J0G/w400-h394/Cyclops1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This cyclops is from Reaper Minis' Bones range and it was a very easy paint job. Not so much! <p> Hoi,</p><p> </p><p>As a subscriber to Wargames Illustrated I regularly get their freebies; plastic sprues provided by big brands (mostly Warlord Games) to get the gamer into new periods. One of the recent issues came with a sprue of the new 15mm ACW Epic batlles figures from WG. Now I have literally enough figures in 1:72 scale lying here to make 22 batallions of 24 figures each, so I have no intentions to start the ACW in 15mm but I gave these a try since I had them anyway. I am sorry if my opinions are going to offend any of you, but: I really do not like these figures at all! They are lacking in detail, depth and the fact they are moulded together in rows makes them not only hard to paint but to base as well (at least using my tried and tested way of basing). </p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; Many of the components/armour plates overlap, but do not cover completely, the various sections where they are mounted. I get obsessive about these situations, and end up wanting to be sure everything is painted, even if there is only a 0.000005% anyone will see one of these mostly-covered areas. </p><p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCBF9SEqnILdNv07aZLVBn1hwjs0_K3MovZ0nEbEn3iWltzwT0eRVwM2UF0DRiap3-ycXgSXq8U_pBNRp1HI-8_8FeoiIBx4LZRzW_F2bz92UMeQE572KXVfLgayYTwNL-lxMcJX-HzkIa/s1552/IMG_9418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1512" data-original-width="1552" height="390" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCBF9SEqnILdNv07aZLVBn1hwjs0_K3MovZ0nEbEn3iWltzwT0eRVwM2UF0DRiap3-ycXgSXq8U_pBNRp1HI-8_8FeoiIBx4LZRzW_F2bz92UMeQE572KXVfLgayYTwNL-lxMcJX-HzkIa/w400-h390/IMG_9418.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">So much great detail on the armour plates...really great job by GW on these kits.<br /></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigQr7Yb7JMfRU3dN4YjyMcLXPeh2YJ-5ARd1iNLDXicS8cV6BTcEyeWAL8gZdl5znrc3F9tG7qxTaKve4THOGFoysKwsdOilGFb2__1U3ATKuCp9pL6BrVjlGYAxPdYNMFVpz-3dm1Resw/s1510/IMG_9419.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1510" data-original-width="1488" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigQr7Yb7JMfRU3dN4YjyMcLXPeh2YJ-5ARd1iNLDXicS8cV6BTcEyeWAL8gZdl5znrc3F9tG7qxTaKve4THOGFoysKwsdOilGFb2__1U3ATKuCp9pL6BrVjlGYAxPdYNMFVpz-3dm1Resw/w394-h400/IMG_9419.JPG" width="394" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Lots of overlapping plate armour on the legs and torso.<br /></span></td></tr></tbody></table><br />So putting one of these together and painting it is a bit of a slow process, at least for me - I paint a lot of the components (like the armour plates) separately from the base structure, and then assemble afterwards. That takes more time, and is more fiddly for sure. But it is worth it in the end - I really like the model, and I'm glad to have one of these available for my loyalist forces.</p><p>Thanks for reading! As ever, there is no vaccine in sight for me here in Northern Ontario, so I hope folks won't mind as my work continues to appear here on the blog! The Titans move about the table, blasting each other with apocalyptic weapons. Void shields are shattered, reactors are pushed, overloaded and (often) cook off. These are from the Legend of Drizzt boardgamee and my quick research revealed, that at least some of the goblins of that universe are red. So I painted them red, although they were green plastic. Very small 28mm scale models, very quick to paint with some Contrast paints. The cobblestone took as long as the figures itself, I think. Anyway these usually briefly appear on the board before slain by the adventurer, so even though they are numerous, they don't last long.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi65kvIldxDQ-gU3BoT7KYCSbXVxmhaf8bQWnQq0uvVgMDTM3dm113KIqHKqYDXOWZOX5VlDMTqLWb6dfjIGr5wTTuLOUwm0okOqm7WCe8sz99QPqIDztCdAPtqxASnD6zOuECzWeH3fpg/s999/20210508_095407.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="561" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi65kvIldxDQ-gU3BoT7KYCSbXVxmhaf8bQWnQq0uvVgMDTM3dm113KIqHKqYDXOWZOX5VlDMTqLWb6dfjIGr5wTTuLOUwm0okOqm7WCe8sz99QPqIDztCdAPtqxASnD6zOuECzWeH3fpg/s320/20210508_095407.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj97v2RPXVyDKBSEi1lL8CdLPJI_TI32bqam6vnJDwJ8mp42Nnlu8jMb_TKET3PyO8sUX04gXGhueh5lBZWgqRJQDo99FntK07m3Y_DCPaaHC4E1tsIe14zb5EbegIQarnPF8ZRxPuEYc8/s999/20210508_095425.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="424" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj97v2RPXVyDKBSEi1lL8CdLPJI_TI32bqam6vnJDwJ8mp42Nnlu8jMb_TKET3PyO8sUX04gXGhueh5lBZWgqRJQDo99FntK07m3Y_DCPaaHC4E1tsIe14zb5EbegIQarnPF8ZRxPuEYc8/s320/20210508_095425.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih6FlUiNibPE5YI0MVRIveGpPNDtcCAwfGPxJG6e49XBTl2JYLFYvZpSS_0DDV3Fv3e2EYPBrinuLcXZwfB1n552JRHxl_sgWOjxGeQQ3GT_cP8UpBFC-rlCg3vHnWbwW_8pKrJ-D3-14/s999/20210508_095445.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="460" data-original-width="999" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEih6FlUiNibPE5YI0MVRIveGpPNDtcCAwfGPxJG6e49XBTl2JYLFYvZpSS_0DDV3Fv3e2EYPBrinuLcXZwfB1n552JRHxl_sgWOjxGeQQ3GT_cP8UpBFC-rlCg3vHnWbwW_8pKrJ-D3-14/s320/20210508_095445.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZv1pm6L8sZq-E4eIkXtT6bYiufzPEYx0rsJgAPw9l8971co0JYKqkOt-Fr33OHjHzO6BBph3ZPAtycL5eTZ-ISd5u8UPS1bE4O4N6xxjz4_UafRodv7mcYkLnIlqEG5ptd1C9BwzfSIs/s999/20210508_095720.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="999" data-original-width="897" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZv1pm6L8sZq-E4eIkXtT6bYiufzPEYx0rsJgAPw9l8971co0JYKqkOt-Fr33OHjHzO6BBph3ZPAtycL5eTZ-ISd5u8UPS1bE4O4N6xxjz4_UafRodv7mcYkLnIlqEG5ptd1C9BwzfSIs/s320/20210508_095720.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p>As you can, the Contrast paints are very effective on these. Last week I painted some medieval bowmen, so this week I thought I'd do some Celtic ones. These are 3d printed 28mm figures from the March to Hell Rome series; you guessed it, another Kickstarter. They are simple figures, with a somewhat cartoonesk flavour, but I like them a lot and they paint up fairly well. For some reason I printed only four of them, so a few others will follow to make up something representing a unit. Mind you, I do not really have a purpose for them as yet; I plan to do something of a skirmishing type of game, perhaps Infamy, Infamy or SPQR. The MTHR range is fairly extensive, the Kickstarter had Imperial Romans, Republican Romans, Celts, Germans, Carthaginians and sundry fun items such as gladiators, so all options are open really. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv1obcdHh2Q6hN6K0kH8oDOAzag2tpzHkXE2mogEU2EjjDNHBIoIo5j4wRc0ABwG8qHaTaBRBJY8K3OVfn44EOSS-_glBG6Bz0LDjuXKvPGQI_9tKQ5X3wB660WXijaPSZzOe95meqPz25/s1000/Celtic+Bowmen+1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv1obcdHh2Q6hN6K0kH8oDOAzag2tpzHkXE2mogEU2EjjDNHBIoIo5j4wRc0ABwG8qHaTaBRBJY8K3OVfn44EOSS-_glBG6Bz0LDjuXKvPGQI_9tKQ5X3wB660WXijaPSZzOe95meqPz25/s320/Celtic+Bowmen+1.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAZFOdGth_j-1CA6FfB75od1JrqDCj7HuEsHfuoG_VWK6tbnjW1Kej1oT_SHskPLz9q0CYGEW2Ad60-tLMlzPW1CVZ-ckUHRL_xWeavZtqHH8W0bV6ncn-YE95DNRRdBOv1Tn6zeKVnHVB/s1000/Celtic+Bowmen+2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAZFOdGth_j-1CA6FfB75od1JrqDCj7HuEsHfuoG_VWK6tbnjW1Kej1oT_SHskPLz9q0CYGEW2Ad60-tLMlzPW1CVZ-ckUHRL_xWeavZtqHH8W0bV6ncn-YE95DNRRdBOv1Tn6zeKVnHVB/s320/Celtic+Bowmen+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Next up some figures I painted up just for fun. From the Scourge of Valtan Forest comes this leprechaun. The concept completely eludes me, but it is a fun figure and painted up easily.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2iRB-totLVMtGA5GTkdERvzn7S-3Es0ifkrlGhUTcObuTHrpNxo7RT6KsBlsuo0K6y-T2W525dv5J4hPzRTmIuzm5PTOuwZQi89t7tZa4yWAURo6WnOArSrWHXhjZ2J40JXrSMNyjL2XZ/s1099/Leprechaun1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1099" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2iRB-totLVMtGA5GTkdERvzn7S-3Es0ifkrlGhUTcObuTHrpNxo7RT6KsBlsuo0K6y-T2W525dv5J4hPzRTmIuzm5PTOuwZQi89t7tZa4yWAURo6WnOArSrWHXhjZ2J40JXrSMNyjL2XZ/s320/Leprechaun1.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p>Finally, two figures from Ian Lovecraft's Viking Legends Kickstarter. Lovecraft projects are always fun and of very good quality, and this was no exception. These were among the very first figures I printed, and thus details are not always crisp and clear and I really didn't know how to remove the supports easily; but the figures were still too good to chuck them into the bin. The final result is not too bad, I would say. These are Brynhildr (after the snake lady in Challenge XI the second female figure I ever painted), who surely looks suitably ladylike but definitely seems to know her business, and Eric Bloodaxe carrying some very compelling arguments.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KvM7B8rzFy1_tGP2FGpI9pxnA3epy4ISkr4FDZHWU3XejJltMJV0TUM8WINN596pA1ugudIwKnr43wG3uAhy2I_4k9p8vbfHs0QxnSQTPeuWJDiBg8d44M3prqCGMwJQz42CPkAH9N0Z/s1000/Brynhilddr+Bjorn.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="750" data-original-width="1000" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-KvM7B8rzFy1_tGP2FGpI9pxnA3epy4ISkr4FDZHWU3XejJltMJV0TUM8WINN596pA1ugudIwKnr43wG3uAhy2I_4k9p8vbfHs0QxnSQTPeuWJDiBg8d44M3prqCGMwJQz42CPkAH9N0Z/s320/Brynhilddr+Bjorn.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieUQeAQj_-3L6KuFCzWnhCno7e5Ewugzh2_FYM5F9ShbMFSP85UK8LE17qGNhs005svBf_-epm2ET7LQ_JhpNYRK3pO3dMSGC5BDq0YenB5q4CEGm7IVdo5TwQTF3KiJO10Woy8fisXzaW/s1000/Bjorn.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="1000" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieUQeAQj_-3L6KuFCzWnhCno7e5Ewugzh2_FYM5F9ShbMFSP85UK8LE17qGNhs005svBf_-epm2ET7LQ_JhpNYRK3pO3dMSGC5BDq0YenB5q4CEGm7IVdo5TwQTF3KiJO10Woy8fisXzaW/s320/Bjorn.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPdf2i_SR5JTC4HuL_ZkIyaBGLdhHO9dHaj0kyXCR_Gc8zwiODh9q-QZFx3xHVazLKYn1my_0LmHeOo0HQrgtvBmjoTwEplD9zUCoQ4DS4K0fDeY8eVQ57sZc3XS1b8OvbsVfJdyog8xs6/s2048/Brynhildr.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1949" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPdf2i_SR5JTC4HuL_ZkIyaBGLdhHO9dHaj0kyXCR_Gc8zwiODh9q-QZFx3xHVazLKYn1my_0LmHeOo0HQrgtvBmjoTwEplD9zUCoQ4DS4K0fDeY8eVQ57sZc3XS1b8OvbsVfJdyog8xs6/s320/Brynhildr.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>Seven 28mm figures make 35 points. At least one more post to go, but I'm not holding my breath.</p>Emjenichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09306203060333974370noreply@blogger.com10
