Now that the scatter terrain is done and dusted, my next posts will be figures and possibly some larger terrain.

From MikeW: 28mm Louis XIV French Infantry Regiment - Late 17th Century

I am so pleased to have gotten this regiment done! They seem to have been on my work bench for weeks, waiting for me to get time to paint and finish them off.

As such, I realised how much I enjoy having time to paint miniatures and when that time gets squeezed, even when it is for very good reasons, it soon gets frustrating.

Anyway I have done a number of similar french regiments in the past but during these lock down times I was scrambling to be able to pull together enough figures to enable me to field this unit.

This group of models represent Regiment Plessis-Prasin, which was formed in 1616 and was thus named in 1650, after August 1682 this the regiment was known as Regiment Poitou. As with most regiments of this period, and as with every country, they were named after their Colonel.

All the figures are from the North Star 1672 range, except for a single Dixon Miniature's pike man. At first I thought that its no good, I can't possibly have one figure taking a knee to receive cavalry whilst everyone else is standing at the ready.

Typically Dixon figures are a quite a lot shorter than the North Star figures,
this pose however, is the exception they are very comparable.

Then I remembered a story told to me by a couple of friends, Mike & Phil, who participated in English Civil War re-enactments, they'd dragged another mutual friend, John, along as a 'birthday treat'. During the height of the re-enactment, John and the guys were standing at the ready with their pikes, looking about and John spied a troop of enemy horse approaching them at a good pace.

He tried to tell the guys around him what was happening but as he was a 'newbie' they all ignored him, they were looking the other way, within moments the troop of horse were on them!

So my explanation for this one figure being at the ready to receive horse is that he has either misheard an order or he has seen what is coming and decided to protect himself.....

So these figures were undercoated white and then given a grey base coat. Leggings, cuffs and linings were all blue so that made things relatively simple. I did add in a few guys with grey stockings to break-up the uniformity a little.

Hats were also grey - either light or dark grey and a few have black hats, again to reduce uniformity, all had blue hat ribbons.

Shaded using Army Painter Dark one Dip and then matt varnished with Windsor Newton's Acrylic Medium.

flags can also be swapped in case I want to redeploy the regiment as another one

Officers, as was their want at the time, wore pretty much what the liked, so a variety of colours here with a few nods to the grey and blue uniforms of the rank and file. Drummers either wore reverse colours or wore the King's livery, I could not find reference to how this was done in the historical regiment so have gone for reverse colours. 

The Kings livery was blue coat and red leggings, cuffs and linings so if my guess proves to be wrong - it can easily be changed

I decided to do all the pole-arms with this regiment as painted, parade ground items, obviously on campaign as shafts get broken and repaired they would be a natural wood colour. Not so here...

From GregB: Space Marine Terminators

Tartaros Pattern Terminator armour for the VI Legion.

Some more efforts for my Vylka Fenryka in GW Horus Heresy setting. This is a small unit of Space Marines wearing "Tartaros Pattern" variants of the feared "Terminator" power armour. The figures are multi-part plastic kits from GW, and they are painted in the grey of the VI Legion Astrates - the "Space Wolves".

In the terrible universe of the far future, there are things that even regular Space Marines apparently struggle with - and so enter the Terminators, elite heavier-than-heavy infantry of the grim far future. Thanks to the extra augmentation afforded by this sort of power armour, the Space Marines can carry even bigger and scarier weapons into combat.

Lots of power augmentation to be able to fire that sort of weapon with just one hand...

One such weapon is the utterly bonkers "Reaper Autocannon" - the whole thing is bat-sh*t nuts, and I have to say I love the look - so utterly menacing and impractical.  Imagine clearing out various fields of fire with that thing!

Just look at that bonkers thing...it's one of my favourite bits of 30k silliness!

Most of the marines in this unit carry "combi-bolters". The "bolter" is the standard space marine combat weapon - and at some point they determined that, as one does, that the best way to improve one gun is to just tie two of that gun together. Thus we get the "combi-bolter" - entertaining.

The officer has slightly more ornate armour plates, a deadly sword and an energy carbine that looks like a sidearm in relation to his huge armoured frame.

Ready for service with The Rout.

These models will teleport on to the table and deliver timely fire support and strategic face-punching (courtesy of all those "power fists") for the forces of The Rout at some point in the future when we can finally get together for a game.

Adamc1776: USS United States and Wreckage

The USS United States the final ship from my US Navy box.  The United Stats awas the ship whos building was directly overseen by Joshua Humphreys in Phladelphia.   She was active durring the Quasi-War serving as flagship for John Barry.

She did further good service durring the Barbary Wars but her great moment of glory was during the War of 1812 when she defeated the Macedonian in a single ship action. This exploit along with a similar victory by the USS Constitution rocked the Royal navy to its core.  The USS United States was blockaded for the rest the war but her crew helped turn the tide on the great lakes. 

The United States has this intersting poop deck feture that doesn't apear on the other two ships of the same type (President and Constitution) at first I thought this must be some creativity on the part of Warlord...

but an early drawing does show such a feature.

The figure head seems to be two woman or angles and I really wish I had an alturnative option to use.  

The sturn looks sharp though the window details didn't full show up.  I'm out of ships for now but hope to have some more to paint soon

I've used some of my leftover bits and pieces to make some wreckage markers to indicate wreaked ships.

From RossM: 28mm Numidians (30 points)

These have been lurking at the edges of the painting table for some time now so decided to finish them off during this challenge. 

Yes, all the pictures were taken at the same time in the same light and yet the one above would appear to be on a grey base sheet rather than white, who knew. 

All of the light cavalry figures here are from Gripping Beast's Punic Wars range and are very versatile as they can be used in both sides and several others of the period including the Caesarian Romans. 

Might get a few more of these in the future although annoyingly they come in packs of three, meaning will need two packs for three stands. 

Think it is about time to go back to using the camera rather than the phone as these pics are washed out and fuzzy at time. 

The skirmishers are also from Gripping Beast and could do with some support from javelin armed troops in ADLG. 

Both the cavalry and infantry are based on 60mm fronts although the cavalry are on 80mm deep bases. Prefer the deeper bases as this allows more staggering of the horses giving more movement. Also allows more figures to be on a base to differentiate between light, medium and heavy cavalry more easily. 

The 60mm fronts will also enable these to be used in other systems such as Hail Caesar and DBA.

So where does this take the points total? Well as all of these had been started before this challenge they are not really point worthy, however, this is for fun so will allocate points based on the following:

4 x 28mm cavalry: 40 points halved to 20 points

4 x 28mm infantry: 20 points halved to 10 points

For a total of 30 points to add to the running total of 165 points out of 500 or 33% of the challenge total.

Here is again something from the mystical Mortal Realms of Age of Sigmar, Akhelian Leviadon. This creature swims in the air, there are strong spells, which allow it to do so. So it is not flying over the lava fields, it is swimming. And the crew is hunting victims, they are looking for souls.

The color scheme is a bit unusual I guess, but that is because I chose to paint it with the colors of Anvilgard. Yes, Anvilgard can't field these things, but technically ruleswise this is an ally. Much better story is that, that somehow the beast hunters of Anvilgard have managed to catch this beast (which happens to the same color as their city colors) and now use it in war.

Painted in Contrast paints, expect the base and metal parts. Works very well on this kind of textured surfaces.

The base is bit messy, the trim needs to be painted again to make it look better.

There were lots of details, which I didn't pick up, but I believe this is good enough now. I picked some details, some of the gems etc, so it is not too plain.

Those Contrast colors really do wonders, when properly used. A very nice sub-marine creature on a lava field!

If you, like me, loved Rogue One, then this is the Commander for you.  Available to the Rebel forces, Jyn is a great operative for leading your forces, having some nice tricks up her sleeve.

The model, which like all FFG Legion figures borders towards 35mm in scale, has a super dynamic pose as she swings her Tonfa to smack her enemies across the face.

Coming in the light grey plastic typical of the range, the material and the details lend to a great painting experience without being to fiddly to assemble.
Just take care to attach the head first, and then the flaps of her scarf for the best fitting!

I went for the drakish green vest on her like she wears often in the movies, with a drabcoloured scarf for contrast on her otherwise dark grey clothing, to prevent her from becoming to bland at all.

And now, swinging her tonfa and with her trusty blaster, she is ready to lead my forces in the TSA Star Wars Legion campaign!
