From TeemuL: Reanimates, over and out (40 points)

Yes, I got my first jab yesterday and in the evening I glued the tufts on these bases, when the basing was dried. These are Reanimate Archers from the FFG's Runewars Miniature Game. Local store had the starter box on 65% discount, so the game including 48 miniatures cost only 42 euroes. I couldn't skip the offer and I bought one box to share with a friend. That is very cost and space effective way to purchase games, you can use this if you have issues with other parts in your family. It might not be a bulletproof, if you tell that after buying the initial box you bought a second one to split and some extension boxes as well... Anyway, we quickly assembled to the first box and played two learning games and decided, that it is nice fun for the afternoons, quite a boardgamelike miniature game in the end, very much X-Wing.

The miniatures are soft boardgame plastic and require super glue to be assembled, but on the other hand there were no mould lines (I could see) and assembling was rather easy. There were several poses as well, for example this unit of 8 archers has 4 different poses. A bit of bending and gluing into different angle hides the duplicates quite well. By the rule book, the miniatures are not glued to the trays, but removed as casualties. Anyway, we are playing this game in relaxed mode and decided that we can glue them and use counters, dice etc. The bases looks much better this way. I just need to hide the rings better on the next batch.

I wanted some quick and simple paint schemes, so I decide to use Contrast paints. They worked very well on these skeletons. Each area has just one coat of Contrast over Wraithbone spray, no highlights, no shades, inks, drybrushes or anything. Only the arrow tips are painted in metallic. The bases are Agrellan Earth with some Army Painter tufts. As you can, see they look quite great for such a speed paint job. I'm looking forward to paint more of these and play more with these.

This is my final post for this Challenge, the XII will start (hopefully) in about six months, so not too much time to change all the plans. This post is 40 in total for 8 28mm miniatures. See you in the next Challenge, stay safe, have fun and act responsible!

From TeemuL: Sheriff's office, heavy weapons and an aeroplane (90 points)

Here's my second last post. I'll get my first dose on Wednesday and I have some unfinished minis on the table. I'll finish them and post tomorrow, I hope.

But in the meanwhile I have been cleaning my table of half-finished projects. Here's a Sheriff's office from Warbases. I started this during the main Challenge and I was hoping to finish it for one of my Wild West entries, but time run out and it went to the backburner. It is ready now, not super pretty, but functional. I didn't really think about the colors when I painted, I was kind of "in the character" of the wild west house builders... It was easy to assemble and the roof can be removed, so the interior can be seen. Excellent for jail break scenarios.

This one is a Nieuport 17 biplane for WW1. I started this scale model during the Challenge 10, continued during the Quarantee Challenge, worked a little after that, did something during Challenge 11 and it is now ready. I'm not sure if it actually fits in the puritan view of the Challenge, but it is kind of toy and I painted it, so why not. :) Now, any 1/32 scale WW1 dogfight rules anywhere? Empty sheds? Anything? This is from Academy Hobby Model Kits bought six years ago from an Event. Do you remember those? I'm not superhappy with the decals, the big ones are a bit too big and I'm quite sure I could have painted some of the freehand anyway. On the other hand, they were much easier to put in place than the GW decals for example, very easy to use. The paintingi is from the insctuctions, although I didn't have the exact paints and not all the necessary hues, but it looks pretty in the photos. In the real life it is not that pretty, but it will do. Oh, and this was the first time I glued strings to represent various cables and stuff. Tricky business that, not perfect, but looks better than without.

And finally three heavy weapon squads for my Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) Imperial Reenactment 7th. More bullets and laser bolts for the various theathers of war, painted mostly with Contrast paints again. I usually keep my 40K bases quite clean, but these were so empty, that I glued some tufts on them. There are two heavy bolters and one lascannon team, not a perfect mix for a heavy weapon squad, but in the Guard you need to fight with what you have.

The house is about 6x6x3, so 10 points. Biplane is roughly a 28mm vehicle, so 20 points. 3 crew served weapon teams, each with a gun and 2 crew, so 20 points a piece, 60 in total. 90 points total for this post.

Yes, one more post from me coming up, I don't know if there are others still participating or not, but I'll keep my eye on this blog for a while anyway.

From TeemuL: Genestealer Cultists (15 points)

Tomorrow I'll be able to book my first vaccination, but I have no idea how fast I can actually have it. But it is coming and this Challenge is going. There's at least one post coming up after this one, I have been lazy doing the finishing touches and photographing them, but they are coming.

Here's three three-armed Genestealer hybrids from the Cult. Actually I don't know what they actually are, these are the first ones I painted, which look like this. They came from the Deathwatch Overkill box by Games Workshop. I have a small army of these guys now, more than enough for Kill Team, not enough for Deathwatch Overkill and definitely not enough for WH40K (even for a small crusade). My color theme for these is the purple skin with light blue eyes, tongues and robes with green protective suits - armored kind of things are drybrushed with blue, the other parts with yellow to get some variation. Much of the equipment is painted with pale white and everything is washed with Drucharii Violet before the drybrush or highlights (even the metal parts). I seem to use Drucharii Violet for many things, these Genestealers, my Sylvaneths and even for my Death Guard. But it gives a nice tone and shadow effect, which I like.

Thanks for reading, next time something with no violet! Take care, stay safe and paint!

From TeemuL: Spite-Revenants (25 points)

Today I present you some Spite-Revenants, plastic GW models for Sylvaneth army in the Age of Sigmar. I painted these in the similar colors as my dryads, the wooden part is pale purple, leaves are metallic red and skin is yellowish purple. The aim is have angry looking fellows and I think I have succeeded. These sculpts are quite angry looking themselves, but the the painting enhances that. The bases are dark brown mud, kind of a swamp with some skulls. The colorful things represent spiritfolk, they are bright colored, but monocolored. You might guess, they are simple Contrast jobs.

No idea about my vaccination, but my next post is almost ready. Stay safe, stay sane!

From TeemuL: Some goblins (20 points)

Some very quick goblins, red this time. These are from the Legend of Drizzt boardgamee and my quick research revealed, that at least some of the goblins of that universe are red. So I painted them red, although they were green plastic. Very small 28mm scale models, very quick to paint with some Contrast paints. The cobblestone took as long as the figures itself, I think. Anyway these usually briefly appear on the board before slain by the adventurer, so even though they are numerous, they don't last long.

As you can, the Contrast paints are very effective on these. I even painted their eyes, evil yellow eyes. And something around the mouth area to represent the vicious teeth.

From TeemuL: Blood Bowl accessories

Something small again, and I don't just mean dwarfes. These are the accessories, which come with the team. I bought this one several years ago and painted the team as well, but these took a long time. I had the generic plastic markers already and lots of balls, so these were not necessary. I started paiting these some time ago, a year or most likely two ago and finally finished these yesterday night.

The difficult part for me with these is to keep them tidy, sometimes the 3D effect is more time consuming than 2D free hand. And since these would not give me any points during the Painting Challenge(s), they have been on the back burner.

As you can see from this last photo, the colors match my blue-and-blue(-and-blue) dwarf team. I could have put some blue on the balls as well, but I decided to keep them leathery brown.

From TeemuL: Ten Martians (50 points)

Still alive, still painting. Like mentioned before, I have moved and started a new jog, so everything is bit of a mess, but I have managed to paint something on my temporary paint desk. I assembled and primed these Martians from the Kill Team starter about the time I bought them and then put them in a box. Since they were almost ready, I thought they would be a quick paint job, they are basically just red robes and so on, correct?

Well, they are Games Workshop models, so they have quite a lot of details... I skipped most of them, but not all. I like the finish, the colored purity seals and other stuff brings them alive and bit individual, should be good for Kill Team, I think.

Contrast paints and metallic paints and they were done. Picking up the bright details makes them look much more finished and tidy than they actually are. :)

I have new "photo-booth", which means I don't have a photo booth, just taking photos in the most well-lit area I can find in the new home, kitchen. I also have a different mobile than during the Challenge XI, so everything is different. They look quite cold, but there's a nice mood, I hope.. Purely unintentional.

10 28mm models should give me 50 points, if I am counting. There are skulls on the chest of each of them, painted black on basically invisible in photos.

From TeemuL: Unknown adventurer (5 points)

Yes, I am alive and not vaccinated. I have also moved to a new home, unpacked most of the stuff and started a new job. I painted also the first mini at the new home and have only about 100 unread entries in the Challenge XI.

But you want to know about the mini. Unfortunately I don't have much to tell. I primed and glued to the base this fellow during Challenge IX, but he had a broken sword, so I didn't paint him back then. I glued a plastic sword blade (Numenor sword) on and painted him during the last few days. I have lost or misplaced my notes, so I don't know who he actually is, I believe him to be a Ral Partha or Prince August sculpt.

Earthly colors in general but some bright ones here and there to remind of his age.

Edit: He is a Prince August Half Orc Thief 2, CH29B.

From TeemuL: High Elves (35 points)

I almost finished these at the same time as the Frodo, but not quite. But here they are, some elves for my LotR army. Two with sword, two with bow and two with spear and shield, all wearing the bright green to mark them as Gilgalad's guard.

Dark blue cloaks on the back, thanks for the good old Blue Ink - no Contrasts on these guys.

And then one regular spearelf in grey.

The armor and shield on all these should be more gold, but since the paint selection has changed several times since I painted first of these almost 20 years ago, but they look like old silver or something. Well, the existing ones are not identical either, so in a big group it is not noticable.

All seven of them here.

These are from my R list, being Reinforcements for my existing High Elves army. I'm looking forward to publish two more posts before this Challenge ends, but let's see...

This kind of smaller miniatures are great for trying out new technics, I really like the extreme edge high lightning on the cloak, OSL around the Ring and NMM on the Ring itself. No wonder it took a whole week to finish!

From TeemuL: Weekly update (5 points)

Trying to keep up with the one post a week schedule and real life tasks I only have a small offering today. Finished this beauty late last night. Invisible Frodo with the Ring by talented Citadel/Games Workshop sculptors in clear plastic. Based on my usual Lotr style, brown sand all over the place.

This is from my Wacky list.

From TeemuL: Akhelian Leviadon (53 points)

Here is again something from the mystical Mortal Realms of Age of Sigmar, Akhelian Leviadon. This creature swims in the air, there are strong spells, which allow it to do so. So it is not flying over the lava fields, it is swimming. And the crew is hunting victims, they are looking for souls.

The color scheme is a bit unusual I guess, but that is because I chose to paint it with the colors of Anvilgard. Yes, Anvilgard can't field these things, but technically ruleswise this is an ally. Much better story is that, that somehow the beast hunters of Anvilgard have managed to catch this beast (which happens to the same color as their city colors) and now use it in war.

Painted in Contrast paints, expect the base and metal parts. Works very well on this kind of textured surfaces.

The base is bit messy, the trim needs to be painted again to make it look better.

There were lots of details, which I didn't pick up, but I believe this is good enough now. I picked some details, some of the gems etc, so it is not too plain.

Curt, you wished for something from my F-list (Fresh), so here you are.

From TeemuL: Stay Safe (42 points)

It has been a while since my last post, probably two weeks or so, but worry not, I'm safe and healthy. It's just that I have had four largish hobby projects on my desk recently, and it is difficult to finish anything... I was also busy with other non-hobby tasks, painting fences and stuff.

But here are three brand new Speed Freeks from the game Speed Freeks by Games Workshop, you can buy these individually as well (from WH40K range), but if you want to buy the cars and other stuff, it would be just crazy to skip the starter box.

I selected rather general coloring for these ork, lots of red and yellow with some metal and black. Orks themselves are naturally green. Pretty much everything painted on Contrasts except the metals and skulls and horns and that kinf of things.

I stupidly glued them all together before starting to paint, which made it rather difficult to paint the face, chest and some other areas. They came up ok and being orks, I forgave a bit of messyness.

I considered some weathering and dirt, but on the other hand I like bright and clear models on the tabletop, dioramas are a different thing of course.

My main aim on the painting was not to get too much yellow or red next to each other, which was rather easy, since orks don't care that much of uniforms and they can paint some piece of metal red and some yellow and do it opposite way on the next bike. They are built from scrap anyway.

I was trying to be rather neat, but not too neat. Contrast paints helped quite a lot on that. I kept the bases quite basic, just some cracking texture paint from GW and sand colored trims. They should be home at the most of the dust tracks they go.

There is a plan that I will be using these during the summer, when we start a Speed Freeks campaign, but we need to finish the Kill Team campaign first. Hopefully I have enough time to build and paint one of the cars as well.
