From TeemuL: Spite-Revenants (25 points)

Today I present you some Spite-Revenants, plastic GW models for Sylvaneth army in the Age of Sigmar. I painted these in the similar colors as my dryads, the wooden part is pale purple, leaves are metallic red and skin is yellowish purple. The aim is have angry looking fellows and I think I have succeeded. These sculpts are quite angry looking themselves, but the the painting enhances that. The bases are dark brown mud, kind of a swamp with some skulls. The colorful things represent spiritfolk, they are bright colored, but monocolored. You might guess, they are simple Contrast jobs.

No idea about my vaccination, but my next post is almost ready. Stay safe, stay sane!

From TeemuL: Akhelian Leviadon (53 points)

Here is again something from the mystical Mortal Realms of Age of Sigmar, Akhelian Leviadon. This creature swims in the air, there are strong spells, which allow it to do so. So it is not flying over the lava fields, it is swimming. And the crew is hunting victims, they are looking for souls.

The color scheme is a bit unusual I guess, but that is because I chose to paint it with the colors of Anvilgard. Yes, Anvilgard can't field these things, but technically ruleswise this is an ally. Much better story is that, that somehow the beast hunters of Anvilgard have managed to catch this beast (which happens to the same color as their city colors) and now use it in war.

Painted in Contrast paints, expect the base and metal parts. Works very well on this kind of textured surfaces.

The base is bit messy, the trim needs to be painted again to make it look better.

There were lots of details, which I didn't pick up, but I believe this is good enough now. I picked some details, some of the gems etc, so it is not too plain.

Curt, you wished for something from my F-list (Fresh), so here you are.

Those Contrast colors really do wonders, when properly used. A very nice sub-marine creature on a lava field!

From TeemuL: Walls and boxes (5 points)

Not much this week, just a couple of wall sections (4) from the Sigmarite Mausoleum box, which I bought almost three years ago to have some terrain on the Age of Sigmar Skirmish games. Better late than never, and of course these can be used in other environments as well. I have now finished all the walls, just two big gates and couple of mausoleums to paint. These were painted in greenish black like most of stone buildings, it is quick and rather easy. These just had lots of skulls and metal pikes, so it was not that quick. All of these were started long before AHPCX.

I painted the shields in different colors to get some brightness and variation to the walls.

Some GW Texture (Technical nowadays) paint on the ground to create a lava like effect.

Most of my hobby time went to assembling and filling these Warchests from Sally4th. They are very nice and they fit very nicely on my shelves, which was a major factor when choosing what to buy.

These white Delux boxes were on discount and there were some issues, but I contacted them and they will send the missing parts in the next shipment, once I figure out what I actually need.

I'll reward myself 5 points for finishing the walls, nothing else.

From TeemuL: War Hydra (35 points)

"I'm not sure if this is better or worse than the barrel with teeth!"
"This island is a nightmare, these dunes were quite nice last time we were here..."

Something from my Unfinished list. I guess I'm no ready for the Age of Sigmar campaign we had last summer, all the needed models are now painted. Better late than never, and I'm planning to use the same army on the next campaign as well. Curt was hoping something from my Fresh-list, but they need to wait the for the next post.

This is a War Hydra, originally by Dark Elves on the Old World, now part of the Anvilgard army fighting in the Mortal Realm of Aqshy. You can see the lava effect, done by Martian Ironearth put on red and yellow painted base. This was originally assembled by a friend of mine for WHFB and it was on square base and had some bits and pieces and bits of sprues on the base to support the beast. I removed the square base, glued it on a oval base and put some filler over the sprue bits to cover them. After covering that with paint and texture, it looks quite bubbling lava, not steady and dried. It doesn't show properly on the photos, though... (a little bit on the first one) I added the wound dice holders to the big base as well, by Warbases.

They have black and red uniforms, I added some yellow here and there and followed the same palette on the captured hydra as well. It mostly done on traditional painting, but I gave the Hydra itself a coat of Blood Angels Red over Red basecoat to create shading. I gave it minimal drybrush on the necks and kept it shiny, slimy on the other areas. Lots of drybrushing here, on the heads, teeth, claws, horns, scales and pretty much everything on the crew.

With this one finished, I have managed to keep my New Year Resolution provided by White Dwarf, at least one warscroll painted in a month.

One of hobby tasks for has been reading. I finished this oldish book about Age of Sigmar last weekend. I borrowed it from a friend, now I can return it. Quite nice story about the early events of Age of Sigmar with some battleplans and (now old) warscrolls. But it is worth the 60 euros, no.

From TeemuL: Finishing fantasy stuff (15 points)

So, a Challenge after a Challenge. I'm usually quite exhausted after the annual Challenge or at least when the summer really starts. My good start of the year slows down until I again pick up some speed later in the year. Hopefully with this another Challenge, I can keep up running a bit later.

I work in software development industry and we work in an agileish way. Prioritizing is important, making lists and starting from the highest priority. The same applies nicely to the miniature hobby, so I made some lists for myself.

U - Unfinished miniatures. Until couple of years ago, I was quite strict on myself, if I started a miniature or a group of miniatures, I'll finish them before I start painting the next one. That included the primed miniatures. Over the last couple of years, the pile has grown. Items from the U list are these, finishing unfinished miniatures. Suitable for this Challenge, since we are not calculating points (well, yeah).
N - Necessary miniatures. These are the miniatures, that I really need for my next games. This is not that important at the moment, for obvious reasons.
R - Reinforcement miniatures. Army has been started, but not all the purchased miniatures are painted. This is related to N list, but it is a bit different. For example my WH40K Imperial Guard army belongs here, I have never played a game with them and I have not planned one yet. Same applies the Mentor Legion and all the Oldhammer miniatures.
F - Fresh miniatures. Trying to keep the miniature count down, I hope to paint the newly purchased miniatures. Why buy them, if not to paint? The cupboard is full of unpainted miniatures, so just for painting purposes there really is no need to buy anything new.
W - Wacky idea miniatures. Just some crazy idea, that I need to do. Like Sarah's Hot Air Balloon Pumping Station. This usually needs some modelling as well.
S - Space saving miniatures. One way to punish myself is to keep the bought miniatures in their original boxes or packages until I paint them. Kind of a management thing to control buying, if there is no room, why buy it? Sometimes these boxes are quite big compared to what they have inside, especially once assembled. So open a big box, assemble and paint the miniature and you have a whole in your storage. Of course the newly painted miniature needs to be stored somewhere, but it is a different story and a different storage. Actually I don't throw away old boxes, I might use them for storing some other miniatures. Or just keep them, since they are really nice and old. Or at least I cut the front picture away and keep it, so I can remember what I have purchased.

So, with these 6 lists I try to keep myself focused on the important aspects of the miniature painting. In all of the (weekly) posts, I try to list which lists I'm using, some miniatures might fit more than one list. I try to visit the Challenge Island locations as well, but using all kind of travelling possibilities, so not necessarily following the roads. This might cause distractions on the Six Lists, or it might help, I don't know.

Here we go, some unfinished miniatures from the past. The big dragon thing was started last summer and was even used in one campaign while not fully painted, shame on me. I actually bought it as assembled, which made it a bit difficult to paint. Not the dragon, but the rider, Dreadlord called Rinos Wildbringer, used in my Age of Sigmar Anvilgard army, using the rules from the Cities of Sigmar. I'm also using this in our current campaign (5 players, but only 1 play in total before the cancellation of everything). So this one is from U and N lists.

Magic horns on the helmet, I hope to find a magic item to match it...

These two Endless Spells were started during the Challenge, but I wasn't able to finish them. I had problems with the "magic effect", since I wanted lava base. All the colors, blue, green and purple, which are usually used as magic, didn't seem right. Then I thought about the magical fire and it was perfect. The cogs look better than the swords (I need to learn their names and rules).

I'm also counting the points for myself, just for fun and statistics, even though I have no training, experience nor knowledge of minioning and no access, superpowers, cats or kittens for any spreadsheets...

U: 3 (total 3)
N: 1 (total 1)
Points:
2x5 points for the spells (they were started during a Challenge so I count them as whole)
5 bonus points for the Dreadlord on the Black Dragon (painted mostly outside of Challenges, so just giving 5 bonus points for the big thing).
15 points total
