KenR British Cavalry Unit for WW1 Mesopotamia

Here we go with the final post of the Q Challenge, a full unit of Cavalry for my WW1 Mesopotamia collection.

I've spoken about these figures before, 28mm Great War Miniatures with head swaps from Woodbine Design Company.

So points wise is the darts favourite of 180 ! (I'd done 6 before the Challenge began) giving me a Q Challenge total of 1618 which was a lot better than my winter challenge score.

I always forget how big a proper size 28mm Cavalry Unit is.

There we go, the end of Q Challenge, Thanks to Curt for organising it, thanks to all you lovely people who have commented on my stuff over these strange months. I hope you all keep well and will no doubt see most of you in the Winter Paint Challenge.

This madness carries on all year round and I'd love to see you all down on the Yarkshire Gamer blog

KenR : 28mm Buildings for Cops and Robbers mini Project

Just a quick post to chuck these buildings into the mix, a couple of them have been in the background of some previous shots but now I have done all three I thought I would present them for judgement.

I've bought and made three buildings over the last few weeks all from a Company called Purple Bob's Hobbies, I think these buildings look the absolute biz, if your interested I did a video review of them, link below.

Points wise I thinks it's around about 60, taking me to 1438. I've seen a couple of people talking about the end of the challenge coming up, I must have missed an announcement, are we going until the end of June ?

I've a unit of WW1 Cavalry waiting to be posted and I'm working on a unit of Arab Spearmen too.

KenR 28mm 7tv Baddies

A little update on the 7tv Cops and Robbers mini Project which is now almost done and this post covers (mostly) bad guy bosses.

The figures are all 28mm Crooked Dice and excellent quality. With the camera counting as a crew served weapon it's equivalent to 14 Figs at 5 points a piece giving me 70 points and a virtual Quarantine Total of 1378.

I'll do a post on the buildings when they are finished (there's another in the builders yard at the mo) but they do work lovely with these figs.

Here's the lone Cop in this batch, the 7tv Tough Detective, who is a dead ringer for John Thaws character Jack Reagan in The Sweeney.

No points for these but I've picked up some more vehicles for the period, no painting awesome 👍

My favourite is the Camera Man and Camera, for those who don't know 7tv is set in a TV Studio and has casts battling against each other for ratings. He has been painted up in Yarkshire TV colours and is likely to appear on a regular basis over on my YouTube channel.

I do have a group of 3 Scooter riders left from my 7tv stuff but I've put them to one side for the moment. I'm working on the terrain for the Sweeney stuff and building up some Scenarios whilst gaming is on hold.

Next up on the paint table are some WW1 British Cavalry, it's a big unit so it might be some time before I get them done.

KenR : 28mm Kingdom of Jerusalem Mounted Sergeants

The recruitment for the Kingdom of Jerusalem continues a pace with a new unit, this time it's Mounted Sergeants.

12 x 28mm figures from Fireforge Games, I've decided to arm these with hand weapons rather than lance which means there are less flags than normal. The large pennant had been painted using a decal from the Battle Flag Decal set as the base.

I do like the sense of motion you can get with these Fireforge figures, the plastic kits allows you to make subtle variations in the figures, the horse poses give the impression of motion and the deeper bases I like to use allow a staggering of the figures again giving that feeling of movement.

Looking at the Quarantine Challenge points total it's another 121 points taking me to 1308.

I have a unit of mounted Knights left to do before the force is finished but for the moment I am concentrating on finishing off my 7tv Baddies.

KenR 28mm 7tv Scientists

Just a quick post today on 4 odd figures for my 7tv game. These are classed as Scientists but can double as a number of generic roles in the game. In the back ground is my new Mk1 Ford Transit (from Vanguards) which my Robbers are going to use as transport.

The 4 figs are 28mm from Crooked Dice so thats another 20 points taking me to 1187, I've done and based the horses on my Kingdom of Jerusalem mounted Sergeants so they should appear early next week.

KenR - 28mm Italian Wars Mtd Crossbow

I did the horses for these for Challenge IX when I did the bulk of my Italian Wars Project and they have been sat on a book shelf waiting for the finishing touches to be added and the figures built and painted.

So here is the finished unit, 12 x 28mm plastic Perry Miniatures with one of Petes Flags as the icing on the top.

I just love the Perrys figures so much, if someone asked me to design a figure that matches my painting style exactly it would be these, the faces are just so good, I even find myself adding little expressions on them.

So we have another 121 points to add to the 1046 in the bag giving me 1167 a very productive pandemic.

Next up will be a mounted unit for the Kingdom of Jerusalem force with some 7tv on the side lines for when I get bored of light blue.

KenR 28mm Italian Wars Command Stand

Back to work tomorrow (just after a scheduled holiday, none of that stay at home gubbins for us Crown Servants !) so I'm catching up getting stuff posted on here.

So here we have a 28mm command stand for my Italian Wars Project. A metal officer figure and a plastic standard bearer both from the Perrys, the flag as always is from Petes, although I did paint the edges 👍

2 Cavalry and a flag is 21 points so we are up to 1046. Next up, probably in a week or so will be some Mounted Crossbow.

KenR 28mm WW1 Mesopotamia Cavalry test figures

I have been searching for sources of figures for 28mm WW1 Mesopotamia Cavalry for some time, I'm going to do a big blog post on the search soon. One of the suggestions was Irregular Miniatures who I have to say I was completely unaware did a WW1 Range.

So I ordered six figures so I could do a test base of each type of figure. Irregular are pretty old school compared with the much more detailed modern sculpts, I've painted them in my usual way, oils for the horses and acrylic paints with the occasional wash for the figures.

First up Turkish Cavalry, quite "toy soldier" looking but presentable, will probably end up getting some more of these as there really is no other options.

Next up the Indian Cavalry, probably the favourite of the bunch, I have another alternative for Indian Cavalry depending on how successful a 3d printing of ammo pouches go so it's yet to be seen if I expand on these but it's a decent option to have in hand.

Finally there are some British Cavalry, they come from the same range as the Indian Cavalry but have a Colonial style Pith Helmet rather than the Wolesley style more common in Mesopotamia. They do have the 1903 ammo bandolier but look more Boer War to me, so these are in the undecided pile.

So for the Q score that's another 60 points taking me to 1025.

KenR 28mm Kingdom of Jerusalem Foot Knights

The last of the Foot are done now for my Kingdom of Jerusalem force, this little lot are Foot Knights and are once again from Fireforge Games, this time their Templar Infantry plastic set.

Colours are the same as I have used for my other units in this force, aided greatly by decals from Battle Flag. Basing is 6 figs on a 60 x 50 base and it was a bit of a challenge getting the figs on the bases with the large cloaks that some of the figures in the front rank are wearing.

I've used some of the decals on the rear of the cloaks as well.

I've got a couple of mounted units which will have the same theme and I will start on those soon.

I think the poses in this set are a lot better than the Sergeants set and I quite like the variety I have managed to get in arm positions which gives the unit a more realistic feel. I quite like the faces on the figures, they have really grown on me and my style of painting cam make them quite expressive.

I've got some Irregular Miniatures WW1 Cavalry as a test on the paint table at the moment so will be reporting on those next.

Another 121 points taking me to 965, pushing for the thousand !

KenR - Baddies, Blaggers and Slaaagggs

In a leafy lane in Richshire England  group of armed blaggers are after the family art collection of the local gentry, who can save us all !

The start of the Robbers cast for my 7tv game, a lovely bunch of balaclava clad thugs ready to nick owt that ain't nailed down.

The figures are from Crooked Dice and as with the uniformed police there are a couple of duplicates in here which I have tried to paint up differently.

Paint wise it's a very straight forward job after all these lot are not trying to stand out whilst on a job !

That's 8 more figures giving me 40 points up to 844.

Next up will be the last of my Kingdom of Jerusalem Foot.
