From TomM: Jyn Erso

"My father's revenge. He built a flaw in the Death Star. He put a fuse in middle of your machine and I've just told the entire galaxy how to light it."
―Jyn Erso and Director Orson Krennic

If you, like me, loved Rogue One, then this is the Commander for you.  Available to the Rebel forces, Jyn is a great operative for leading your forces, having some nice tricks up her sleeve.

The model, which like all FFG Legion figures borders towards 35mm in scale, has a super dynamic pose as she swings her Tonfa to smack her enemies across the face.

Coming in the light grey plastic typical of the range, the material and the details lend to a great painting experience without being to fiddly to assemble.
Just take care to attach the head first, and then the flaps of her scarf for the best fitting!

I went for the drakish green vest on her like she wears often in the movies, with a drabcoloured scarf for contrast on her otherwise dark grey clothing, to prevent her from becoming to bland at all.

And now, swinging her tonfa and with her trusty blaster, she is ready to lead my forces in the TSA Star Wars Legion campaign!

From TomM: Star Wars Legion Turbo Laser

So I finally finished this piece of scenery for Star Wars Legion, and truth be told this was actually the first "larger" thing I printed on my Ender 3.

The only thing I was in doubt for was to go for a more white colour like in the original trilogy, especially in the pre-touched up edition, or for the lighter grey like in recenter images.

In the end, I opted for the second scheme.

The model consists of various "levels" glued on top of each other, and the barrels again a seperate piece, and takes about 4 evenings of printing to complete.

Nice and tall to stand on the table now, the next project for SWL will be a power generator, before continuing printing work on the Tattooine set I have.

From TomM: Star Trek NX Class

The first model from the WizKids range I painted, though as it is a Deep Cuts sub-line, it doesn`t come with the cards of dial to play the game.

Which is actually fine by my, as it was planned to be used in something else anyways...

The NX class, from the Enterprise series, is for me a rather beautiful design, and I liked it from the moment the series aired and it took off in the pilot, Broken Bow.  While the series got a fair amount of critiscism, I thought it not bad at all to be honest, and I loved Scott Bakula's captain Archer performance.

The model itself is in what might best be described "playable scale", because if this would be 1/7000 like for example Galaxy classes often are, it would fit in it's shuttle bay in a manner of speaking.

Painted mainly metallic, as the vessel was on the screen compared to the more white and later grey colour schemes of Federation ships, this was good heaps of fun to do, and it looks nifty for the tabletop to boot.

Cool little model for sure, and now to see wether to get into the actual game but the starter box is sheer impossible to find at online stores and WizKids doesn`t ship outside the US of A, or just build a collection of the ships if I can pick them up in bargain bins and the likes...

From TomM: Hootington the Barn Owl

It has been a long time, honestly to long, since I threw myself on the excellent figures of Oathsworn's Burrows and Badgers range.

But with the recent release of their campaign expansion (mine is in the post as you read this), I started working on the figures again.

And let me tell you a little secret: Guardians of Ga'Hoole is my guilty pleasure, I think after the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Aliens, that is probably the movie I saw most in the past years.

You see, I have a thing for owls, and ever since the first Kickstarter that launched the game, I have had the Barn Owl in my first order.  It just took scandalously almost 1.5 years before I painted him.

I think though I got him a nice three layer colour scheme on both an earthy brown for the feathers on the outside, and a light grey for the inside.  The armour was done in a golden colour to add some variation in the scheme.

I love this model, and it is the one figure I won`t allow Noshi to claim to put in her warband when we play this again in the future...

From TomM: Elven Council Circle

Oh I love this model, produced by Dark Realms as part of their February Patreon releases.

Based on the council of Elrond from Lord of the Rings (heck, why do you think I backed that Patreon...) this makes a great display piece for the forces of Rivendell.

After spending about a week on and off printing the model, I sat down and gave it a paintjob to which I put in some more effort then usually for scenery, because it should look epic during Battle Company games.

The pillars where done by basecoating them with Vallejo Earth, then loosely applied Vallejo Heavy Ochre over it.  Consequent drybrushes of Vallejo Yellow Ochre and Iraqi sand brought it to the desired colour.

For the water, it was all Vallejo again, going from a base of Imperial Blue to drybrushes with Intense Blue, Magic Blue and finally Ice Blue, while the rocky edge was vallejo Dark Rubber drybrushed first with Cold Grey and then Sky Grey.

I really like how it turned out as a result, and check out the Patreon if you are into Middle-Earth, it is truly worth the 10USD a month.

From TomM: Rivendell Spearmen

At last I obtained two metal spearmen for Noshi's Rivendell battle company, and I went to swiftly paint them so she can field her band of choice.

Though seeing how she tends to trash me, I'm not sure if the raised defence, extra attack so the double handers can feint or strike two-handed, supporting pointy ears make a happy prospect.

But it are still awesome models though, and now the Rivendell starting warband is completed as well, so that's one more to scratch off the "to do" list of collecting all the starting battle companies.

By the end of the year I'll probably do a post again on how many of the bands I now have finished, as well as taking a look on what I need in case the campaign kicks off at our place middle 2021 now due to the Corona pandemic.

As an added bonus, this adds another 22 points towards the 700 point goal of Rivendell this year...

And if it doesn't at least we'll have choice a plenty for our average kitchen table game!

From TomM: Frostgrave Illusionist

With the Frostgrave rules being free to download from the Osprey website a while ago, I decided to (finally) really take the plunge and make good work of the band I wanted to print for this game.

It also contained the solo rules, so I might actually play one or two of the scenario,s (after printing up the foes as well) and try to convince Noshi of the game on top.

Of course, this means my band needs a leader, and that is a wizard of a specified school.  Harking back to my DnD games of years ago, I went for the illusionist school of magic, as I always thought them the most dashing and reminded me of my preferred Blue magic decks back then in Magic: The Gathering.

The model is one from the awesome Michael Zavala sculpts, all free on Shapeways to download, as will be most of the collection I`m creating for this.  Not a shabby figure if you ask me for about 5 eurocents in materials...

I also printed out a Dagger Tree found on Thigverse, and, inspired by A Song of Ice and Fire's wyrdwood trees, painted it a reddish hued white.

Now just to consider wether I`ll be making Dungeon Tiles as well for this game...

From TomM: MS-07B Gouf

The latest addition to my Future War Commander "Open Market" aka Gundam force, the good old Gouf mass produced mobile suit.

While more close combat orientated then the ZAKU, to which it lost out to become the suit of choice for the Principality of Zeon, it is often a suit used by officers and aces.

The model itself is a 1/400 scale Gasaphon (capsule toy) made by BanDai in the same sort of soft plastic like the various Clix systems, and has been repainted from it's pre-paint (albeit correct) colour scheme and based to be used on the tabletop.

While 6mm is actually 1/300, these models look far better with the terrain often used for those games, and they can serve perfectly as well in the Mobile Suit Gundam skirmish game, something I`m looking into trying out solo one of these months.

Now to pick one of the many classes in the armylist to represent it with...

From TomM: Rebel Troopers

Part of a Skirmish force I`m building for once clublife picks up again after Covid-19, these 4 Rebel Troopers are the first models I painted for the game.

I got no idea how it plays or so, I just allowed myself to be sucked in and we'll see from there though.

But I made an army list and slowly my models are arriving by mail, so I might actually get gaming before summer brake as a result.  I picked the Rebel faction (as if these guys weren`t a dead giveaway) as such, and no light-sabre's in my list.

I also printed out a Cargo sled, which makes some good scenery for the game and a nice little vehicle to display the models on for now, alongside some crates I also printed up.

So, let's call this a decent start.  I`ll paint the rest of the boxed set in the future, but first my priorities now are all the models for all the forces in all the leagues I registred in for 2020...

From TomM: T'au SEED Destiny: UMF/SSO-3 ASH

Well, I had hoped to present this post as my newest Kill Team force, ready to go to battle in Kill Team at the local club.

But once again, something new isn't embrased by the local player base (you should have seen the discussion about Beta Bolters back when those where published...) so well, this is just my newest entry in the slow building force of T'au, based on the SEED Destiny anime.

The Stealth suits are in my opinion nice little sculpts, and honestly, for Kill Team they have a great skillset.  The -1 to hit and the high armour makes them pretty resistant, the multishot burst cannons can wrack an opponent to high heaven, and the fly rule of the suits makes them mobile as heck.  Sure, you are heavily outnumbered, but then again you have the cheap markerlight drones to fill out the force, take hits for your suit, AND add markerlights on the enemy...

The Inspiration:

Seen in episode 13 of the anime, when the Freedom makes his glorious return to the franchise, the ASH suits are new high tech infiltration suits created by ZAFT.  Hence the SSO in their designation, being part of the Special Ops wing of the organisation.

While the anime version is well armed as well, with beam claws and missile pods, I choose to copy their colour scheme.  The burst cannons nicely represent the fast firing pods, while the fusion blaster is a good representation of the beam weapons.

So that's the fourth unit of my force now completed, maybe it's time to build more of the actual "mainstay" suits for the force, the Crisis suits, next...

From TomM: Warriors of Lothlorien

Amidst painting models for Battle Companies etc this month, I`ve been tidying up some other models as well.

Nothing fancy, mostly things that didn`t get finished in the AHPC and as such where standing on the desk in a state of half painted.

The first as such have been these 5 warriors of Lothlorien, who "had" to go with the likewise entry, but due to time restraints the entry was cut a bit smaller.

So now I've completed them, adding some more cheap (okay, relative with Elves) infantry to the budding force.

If I would only paint up the two armoured ones, that would be another Battle Company completed, so I`ll look into that soonishly.
