From Curt: Siege of Malta, 1565 - Barbary Corsair Spearmen and a Archer Command Stand

Switching tack from the Grim Dark Future to the sun-kissed Middle Sea, I thought I'd finish off a few more figures for my 1565 Malta project which have been sitting half done since the winter Challenge.

Here are half a dozen spearmen to add to Turgut Reis' slowly growing contingent of fierce Barbary corsairs.

These are from Footsore Miniatures' excellent Caliphate range. Similar to my other efforts, I've had fun using a lot of colour with these guys. I may get another pack later to bulk-up the unit, but this group will stand as a good start.

The full unit of spearmen.
I also did up a command stand for one of my corsair archer units which was bereft of one.

The piper and standard bearer are from Brigade Games, while the leader is a Footsore model. I did a small modification to have him holding a crossbow along with a small targe, just to make him a little more distinct from his bow-armed comrades.

The archers with their new leader.
At first I just had the three figures on the base, but for a bit of additional colour, I decided to give them a banner as well (I figure you can't have enough flags on the tabletop).

These 9 models will give me another 45 points, for a grand total of 135.

Thanks for popping in for a visit!

From MattT: A couple of salty types, VBCW

As i have based my militia in Humberside i wanted to inject a bit more of the sea into my militia. Searching around i found the Pulp Figures, savage seas range. Although a lot of the range is a bit too tropical, some of the figures will fit right in representing merchant navy and local fishermen.

I have now managed to muster enough to represent HQ section and  2 x 12 man sections.

Stay Safe, Matt

KenR - 28mm Italian Wars Artillery

A quick addition to the things that go boom in my Italian Wars Army. I found this gun and crew already undercoated in a box under a box in a cupboard I hadn't looked in for a while ! Heaven knows how much stuff is hidden around the Home of Yarkshire Gamer 😁

Thirsty Work !
The figures are from Wargames Foundry who do a few different gun and crew packs, they are old casts but like the Gendarme they very much stand up to today's more modern sculpts.

A quick 30 points taking me to 734 so far in Q Challenge, got some more Cops to post tomorrow.

From SimonG: More HYW Knights with a Herb Twist

While this one took a bit longer than anticipated - maybe I'm getting a bit ambitious in what I'm trying to take on now, it'll be good when I can switch on to masses of single colour English archers!

Anyway this stand (again in Impetus basing) is for Teodoro da Valperga and his companions. de Valperga was an Italian independent Captain who was present at Orleans and Patay. Most interesting is his coat of arms which comprises a hemp plant!

The knights are all Perry plastics as are three of the horses. The last horses (with the caparison) is from Front Rank.

I'm quite pleased with how these came out including the Croix de Lorraine on the guy in Blue and experimenting with an edging pen to outline details like the white cross on the guy in red.

One more stand of French knights to go but before then I have a couple of stands of billmen to complete and with that and a couple of stands of men at arms my French army will be finished.

From SanderS: More Rebel Scum! (21points)

Hoi There,

In the continued quest to finish all the Rebel figures for Star Wars Legion in the commission, I have now come to some Rebel Specialists. An Intelligence officer (his pips state he's a Commander) as well as two droids: a medical one and a R2 unit.

The Intelligence officer

The droids:

I really liked looking for a scheme for the R2 unit that wasn't main stream "white with a contrast colour" and luckily my client liked it too. The Medical Droid is just his boring old self modelled on the one in Empire. They do look like they are dancing "The Robot" don't they?

Cheers Sander
