In between painting the commissions (Star Wars Legion and Warlords La Haye Sainte set) I have managed to do something for myself as well.
At the Shallows we are supposed to paint something suitably nautical, preferrably a boat, ship or otherwise floating vehicle. Now I have several ship for different periods in several states of preparation, but nothing in a way I could finish reasonably soon. So I ended up painting tis smallish resin sloop. It's resin and it's boat shaped and lacking all kinds of boaty-things that should actually make it servicable at all. But it's been annoyingly lingering in my cabinets for years so it had to be painted.
The passenger it brings along, however, is a totally different matter! I present you: Geralt of Rivia, the famous Witcher!
Stronghold Terrain has not only provided me with a slew of nice Vikings characters, but also with this Geralt figure (I also have Ciri but she will have to wait). A nice gentleman on a Heroquest FB group made cards for the magic spells the Witcher uses and I did a character card as well as some items (the Witcher potions and swords) so I will now be able to use him in HQ games as well.
If anyone knows of a good bard figure please do let me know. The version of "Toss a coin" below, is Arthur's favourite and he has even taught it to his 3 year old little Bros!
That's a fabulous rendition of Geralt and a fabulous rendition of the song.
ReplyDeleteCheers!
DeleteVery nice work
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam!
DeleteReally nice work, well done.
ReplyDeleteMuch obliged Stuart!
DeleteNice boat and great Witcher! I was not familiar with the tale, and found the Netflix series a little unsatisfying. Very catchy song, though.
ReplyDeleteI got the tip from some (former) pupils when I asked for some straight sword and magic fantasy to read. The first 2,5 books are just that, sort of Stand alone complex fantasy tales in which Geralt tackles some monsters. Then the main story kicks in. To really get the storyline in the series you need to have read the books.
DeleteDecent boat and lovely figure! Haven't heard of the book or the tv series I'm afraid!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
No worries Iain, thanks for the kind words!
DeleteThe sloop is nice, despite your misgivings, and Geralt is awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhy thanks for that!
DeleteGreat work Sander - you can pimp-out the boat with stuff from your printer! :) I really can't stand The Witcher (appalling bad acting and the story makes no sense), especially that astonishingly annoying bard. The only figure I could recommend for him is something depicting him post-immolated by a dragon. ;P
ReplyDeleteSome hints to appropriate STL files would be much appreciated ;-) as I have told Barks, the series (apart from the acting no excuse for that) is actually ment for afficianados.
DeleteGreat work Sander I like that boat model a lot, and as Curt says you can pimp it up with appropriate boaty bits. Love the figure too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter!
DeleteI didn’t really get on with the first book, it was ok but nothing stood out to make me want to read more of them sadly. Your point about needing them to really get the series is interesting as I found the series somewhat unsatisfying too. Something I felt I “should” enjoy rather than actually enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYou’ve done a smashing job on the figure and his little boat though!
Oh I have had the same feeling with "The Walking Dead" and "Breaking Bad" everybody around here was quite smitten with those series and to me they were only "meh" and I watched all but 4 episodes each I think before going to something that I did like.
DeleteFine work Sander! "The Witcher" is definitely not my thing, but it's a rich tapestry out there, so it's great to have variety for everyone! For my part, I found "Ozark" to be so lame, but everyone around me just raves about how great it is...
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about Ozark, couldn't even watch out the first episode.
DeleteLovely bit of nautical themed minis 👍
ReplyDeleteThanks heaps!
