From RossM: 4 x 15mm War of The Roses (8 points)

Where are the weeks going? Is this the start of week seven or eight; not sure anymore and they are all becoming one in lockdown.

A small post this time round consisting of 4 15mm War of the Roses figures from Gladiator Miniatures.

Add caption

These are part of the additional elements required to take the DBA army up to the level of an ADLG army. The first of quite a few additional bases especially of foot.

These will be retinue billmen in game terms and part of Oxford's command in the overall scheme of things.

For the points tally it is time to get painting and basing.

4 x 15mm infantry = 8 points

This takes the running total to 96 points of 500 or 19.2%

Hope that you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers for now.

From TamsinP: 28mm Wars Of The Roses Currours and Commanders

For what will be my final post for this project on here, I present the last (for now*) elements of my Wars of the Roses army.

The ADLG list allows up to two bases of "Currours" (heavy cavalry), and that is what I painted up (I know - Shock! Horror! Tamsin didn't paint more bases than the list allows!). I also painted up six command stands - three foot, three mounted - which will allow me to field two standard or three smaller armies. But on with the pics!

Currours:

Commanders:

For those who are wondering, in the seven weeks since I started this project I have painted 36 mounted and 202 foot figures. If this had been for the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge, that would be 1370 points without any bonuses - just short of what my pre-bonus points total for what I painted over thirteen weeks for AHPC X!

As several people had requested, I took some group shots of the completed army. Here's one of everything - I've put more on my own blog.

All figures are 28mm plastics from Perry Miniatures.

* "for now": there are lots of optional troops which can be added in future - artillery, Scots, Welsh and Irish troops, mercenary pikemen, crossbowmen and handgunners. I can foresee the collection growing large enough for me to field three or maybe even four standard-sized ADLG armies, so I will need more command stands. And baggage camps

From TamsinP: 28mm Wars Of The Roses Mounted Men At Arms

I told you that you wouldn't have long to wait for my next batch of figures and here they are - some tin cans on tin cans. Admittedly i did suggest that I might post these yesterday, but I decided to finish painting the next batch before doing the final stages of basing on these.

The ALDG list allows up to one base of "Royal Bodyguards" (elite heavy knights) and two bases of "Mounted Men at Arms (heavy knights). As mentioned in my previous post, I have enough figures for two standard or three small armies so have done two bases for each, although there's nothing to say that the "Royal Bodyguards" bases can't be fielded as "Mounted Men at Arms". Besides, I had enough figures to do four bases!

Royal Bodyguards:

Mounted Men At Arms:

The remaining elements - the Currours (heavy cavalry) and commanders - are now on bases and may even be ready to post tomorrow, but Friday is perhaps more realistic. Or I might split them over two posts, one tomorrow and one on Friday.

From TamsinP: 28mm Wars Of The Roses Northern Border Horse

It's been a fortnight since my last post here, but I think you'll agree that it's been worth the wait. Part of the delay has been down to me painting all of the horses for the mounted elements of this army before starting on the riders.

This time I'm presenting some Northern Border horse. The AdlG list for Wars of the Roses allows up to two bases of them as either light cavalry or medium cavalry. Now, I know what you are thinking - there are clearly three bases of light cavalry in the photo above (and the ones below). Well, you see, I had more figures than I needed and it would have been rude not to use them. Besides, I've worked out that I will actually have more than enough figures for two 200-point armies, and enough for three 150-160 point ones. And that is before adding Scottish, Welsh, Irish and European mercenaries...

Light Cavalry:

Medium Cavalry:

As before, the figures are 28mm plastics from Perry Miniatures.

I've finished painting the next batch of riders and should be starting the basing later today. That means that they should be ready to post on Tuesday. As I'll be working on the next batch of riders during gaps in the basing process, you might get another post on Thursday or Friday, and a final one to close out this project next weekend.

From TamsinP: 28mm Wars of the Roses Spearmen

I did say on Friday that you could expect another small batch of figures from me in short order. And here they are. The list in AdlG allows the Northern Border/Militia infantry to be either billmen (which you saw on Friday) or spearmen. So, I had to paint up three bases of spearmen!

28mm plastics from Perry Miniatures as before.

This week I will be starting work on the cavalry elements. Looking at what I have prepped, I've actually got more mounted than I need for the list.

From TamsinP: 28mm Wars of the Roses Billmen

Continuing my Wars of the Roses project, this week I have some billmen for you. You may remember from my first post that the AdlG list allows for six bases of foot knights or retinue billmen. The list also allows for three bases of Northern Border/Militia billmen, so of course I had to do all nine bases.

Retinue Billmen:

As before, all the figures are 28mm plastics from Perry Miniatures.

I should have another (smaller) group of figures for you on Sunday if all goes well.

From TamsinP: 28mm Wars of the Roses Archers

Following on from the men at arms I posted last week, this week I am adding the archers. In Art de la Guerre you can have up to eight bases of "retinue" longbowmen and four bases of "Northern Border/Militia" longbowmen. Of course, despite the fact that it is highly unlikely that I will ever be able to field twelve bases in one army, I had to paint enough for all twelve bases.

The figures are all Perry plastics.

Retinue Archers:

I should point out that I'm not basing the livery on any particular historical retinues...

Northern border/Militia Archers:

I think seventy-two 28mm foot figures painted and based in just over a week isn't too bad going.

Next up will be the billmen.
