Hello to all! My name is Alex, I am from Russia and I have a paint depression. I participated in the tenth paint challenge, took the tenth place and now I do not really want to paint. I have something to do at home - two young children and studying students at a distance takes most of my time. But still, hobbies are an important part of my life and I agreed with pleasure to take part in quarantine challenge. But I just can’t force myself to pick up brushes. Help me! Tell me - paint! And I'll start painting! But what to steal? I just can’t choose, tell me - which is better -
- cowboys?
- civilians in the 18th century?
- African warriors?
- or do something else? Help me, write in the comments, what should I choose?
I know the feeling, every year after the challenge i first that most tedious of jobs, painting movement trays for my forces. It's boring as hell, and after a day or two of greens and flocking, one wants to paint something serious again
ReplyDeleteIf you don't feel like painting, take a break for a few days. Don't even look at your models. After a short break, you can come back fresh and pick up your brushes with enthusiasm.
ReplyDeleteI always like your extremely creative projects Alex, but I can imagine that you are struggling a bit after the Challenge. Take your time to recuperate, and then I would really like to see some of those civilians!
ReplyDeleteYes, Alex. All three of your possibilities look tempting, but the others are right - take a break, then come back to it afresh. Maybe someone else's post will inspire you. Maybe you'll have another of those brilliant ideas for scratch-built terrain you're so good at. Maybe you'll relax with a book or a film, and that will spark a project. Maybe you'll simply find your painting muscles twitching and a sudden urge you can't resist. The key thing is to get pleasure from the hobby - so, whatever you do, enjoy yourself!
ReplyDeleteWhatever you do will be fun ,whenever you do it,I would like to see the 18th century civilians when they're done though!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
I like the look of the Cowboys .... whatever you do will be great.
ReplyDeleteThat's a common feeling Alex; I go through the same most years when the Challenge ends. I took a few days off then painted something for someone else, but I'm finding it difficult to get to grips with the next bit of painting for myself (that may be down to the figures though).
ReplyDeleteAs for what you should paint, maybe none of those three - perhaps go for something that you haven't Painted during the Challenge, maybe even just a single figure.
It happened to me last year after the Italian Wars Project, didn't paint anything for months afterwards. It will pass 👍
ReplyDeleteI can never force myself to paint.. that’s why I gave up doing commissions. That said, if I were looking at the things on your desk right now, I’d pick the Africans because I’m working on that period now.
ReplyDeleteIf you can't paint build terrain. The actual goal this time is "Hobby Tasks" so anything hobby related counts.
ReplyDeleteCowboys!!
ReplyDeleteCowboys are always fun.
ReplyDeleteAs are ninjas and pirates if you have any of those :)
Oh heck do em all!
ReplyDeleteNo pressure Alex! I'm usually fairly wrung out by the end of the Challenge too.
ReplyDeleteI suggest putting your brushes away for a few weeks, hang out with your kids, read some books take in a few movies and then come back to see how you feel. Remember: it's a hobby! The QC will be running until summer - we'll be here for awhile yet. :)
18th century African cowboys? Or just do the lot!

ReplyDeleteI kind of want to see what you do witb the 18th century civilians but they are all good choices.
My vote for African Warriors
ReplyDeleteIf you've got a game coming up, paint something for that. Deadlines always motivate me.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks to everyone who wrote their tips and opinions! I read everything carefully and my paintwork depression almost disappeared!
