From Barks: A rude hut

I, too, have slowed down my output and been neglecting my blog. Here's a 3D printed hut I painted to keep the juices flowing. This is from Printable Scenery. You get a huge range of pieces- walls, windows, doors, floors, roofs etc- with connecting clips, and can plan and print away to your heart's content. This is a test building for a 4x4" footprint. The door swings and there is an interior with fireplace.

From TamsinP: Block Gang for Judge Dredd

With the forces of law and order (maybe disorder in the case of the Citi Def) painted, it is time to move on to the criminal elements of Mega City One.

With the high unemployment rates due to automation, boredom is rife among the teenagers and young adults of the city. Combine that with wanting cool stuff but not having any money, it is hardly surprising that so many turn to petty crime. Every block* has at least one gang and their rivalries and grudges frequently spill out into violent confrontations. It is quite common for two or more gangs to agree to have a rumble, sometimes over "turf", sometimes just for the sheer hell of it.

*the megablocks house tens of thousands of people each, and most people live in these.

Block Gang:

These eight figures come with the starter set, but are also available as a stand-alone pack.

The chap with the chain most have leaned over while the superglue was curing - I've fixed him since taking the pics.

 Block Gang Reinforcements:

These three figures are available as a separate pack. I ordered these at the release date, so I actually got metal ones (Yay!) rather than Warlord's nasty new resin. It seems that the resin shrinks more in the mould than the metal does - these three are noticeably taller and "fuller" than the resin ones.

I'll be working through the rest of the criminal elements over the next week or so, and will post them as and when a group are finished.

From JohnS - First Post - Yes, It's been a busy few months

Hi all, it is difficult to believe that this is my first post in this Challenge as I was very enthusiastic about the idea. Apparently everybody in Australia decided they needed new paints, brushes and miniatures about 5 minutes after we started this challenge. Work has been a bit frantic.

I started these ten Dwarf Ironbreakers to follow on the few I did in AHPCX and to round out the unit to 30 for WHFB 8th edition. My plan was to quickly knock out these simple paint jobs and move on to building some ancients. There are Carthaginians calling my name.

Well, best laid plans and all that. I work for War and Peace Games down here in Australia and we have just been slammed. So much so that the last thing I wanted to do after packing hundreds of paint orders is play with more paint and figures.
Anywho, life is returning to somewhat normal, I even got to play outside in the sun for a couple of hours today.
I hope you like my little chaps. I may give them a run in those new Oathmark rules, I have some sabot movement trays somewhere. In the meantime, I'd better get to those Punic types I bought back in March and haven't opened yet. Cheers

From DrQ: Space Zombies

Hello all! I missed a week or so do to various reasons, but I'm back with a vengeance this week. Somewhere around 100 days of quarantine, and over week of curfews on top of it pushed me to one the larger projects on my shelf of shame: finishing the space zombies in Zombicide Invader by CMON.

Thirty five of these monstrosities in all. Only a group shot here, because these are literally fodder for space shotguns and space chainsaws. Simple paint job of base coat, wash, and drybrush highlight. Probably the most time spent per individual model was the orange basing to match the alien terrain of the game tiles.

Now I just need a good tutorial on how to paint white power armour to finish off the heroes in the game.

Stay safe!

From MikeW: Latest Elizabethans and Border Ruffians

Here is my latest batch of Elizabethan Border Ruffians, as I often do, I have found this batch of figures on eBay and of uncertain manufacture. In this case I believe that they may be old Vendel Miniatures, which I believe are no no longer available...

Figures were painted using my usual methodology of white undercoat, add colours and then apply Army Painter Dark Tone followed by Matt Vanish from Windsor & Newton. Figures then based are flocked with electrostatic grass and other materials.

Two mounted Ruffians, all lances are steel spears, acquired separately,
used as they much more robust than lead versions,...
... and from the other side

Two more mounted ruffians, one English and one Scots - with the Targe

From the other side,
Border Family loyalties were somewhat fluid, when it came to national ties,
in times of national emergency, hey would turn out for whichever
nation was offering the best opportunities for the family.

Four Ruffians, three with calivars and one with pistol

Three more Ruffians, all with calivars

One bow armed Ruffian and one with a crossbow.

The final two Ruffians in the batch, one English and one Scots

Iain W 28mm Great Italian wars terrain

Not many figures painted recently I've been on a prepping and priming mode but I have finally finished some buildings for my great Italian wars town/city.
They are all from TT combats carnivale range although the three larger buildings have since been superseded in their catalogue, clearly I have taken too long painting them!
So,MDF, I haven't built many MDF kits, the big northern European church (also by TT combat) was about it and I felt I needed a bit more texture than I got with just the MDF so I slapped on some paint  with a bit of sand here and there, based coated dry brushed, washes, I've finally decided enough is enough and close enough is good enough!
These buildings are designed to be slightly later in period and they are also meant to be Venetian, I probably won't use them as Venice but more likely Pavia, Rome or Florence .
I figured I'd look into images of 15th century Florence as my city walls are a pretty good match .
A reconstruction of 15th century Florence

An image of Pavia ( with patron saint in 1525)

Late medieval Sienna

The entry of Charles VIII into Florence  1494

The rebuilding of 15th century Florence

15th century Florence in a contemporary painting

A view of 15th century Florence

The Duke of Urbino's palace/city.
So this is the feel I wanted to achieve with the buildings I was working on plus some others I'd already built.

What I realised was looking at the images of Florence, Pavia,Urbino was that I was missing the distinctive pan tiled roofs. Carnivale ( the game) is all about jumping about on flat roofs, so it's not that surprising that they've made the majority of their roofs flat, but didn't help me much, so I built my own detachable pantile roofs,so that I can use the roof as a  command post or make it visually work with a roof, they're foamboard with some unknown plastic tiles I picked up in a model shop in Windsor ( I always try and buy something in a bricks and mortar model shop!) The ridge tiles I carved out of balsa.

I have still to finish this ones optional roof but it kind of shows how I did it

So this is my version of Charles  VIII entry into Florence.
What I liked about the larger models was how they could stand in for the bigger town houses and I  figured I could combine them with one of my free standing towers and a few small outbuildings to give me the feel of a villa of the period, like say Biocca. Three of the buildings gives you a reasonably sized village or small town, again with the addition of some outbuildings which after cypress trees are next on the Italian wars terrain list, although a bridge with buildings on it would be nice wouldn't it?

Here the new buildings mixed in within my city walls and with my existing buildings, I deliberately went with tiles for my northern European churches so that I could use them to pack out my Italian city, especially if I were to do the siege of Rome! Next up maybe some figures in the last week!?
All the best Iain
