From SimonG: Latest HYW Men At Arms

Continuing to wrap up my French 1420s army here are two stands of Front Rank men at arms.

These are well cast, chunky, characterful and attractive miniatures but a restricted range of poses. You cannot mix them on the same stand as Perrys (which are much slighter in build) but alongside them on the table they are fine.

The heraldry is all fantasy but freehand (so these are not meant to be any specific individuals). The dolphin 🐬 (if that's what it is) is my favourite!

I've got one more stand of mounted MAA plus a lone banner bearer and then the French are done and it's on to the English. For the latter with all their white armour I think I'll go a little lighter on the grimy wash -- all of the French have ended up rather mucky looking (as one would after a few hours fighting in a muddy field!) so it will be nice to emphasise the contrast. On the English side the archers will all be dirty and rough!

  1. Excellent work. I think that dolphin should have it's own TV show....

  5. Thanks Tim, Ken and Peter -- it's fun to be able to go where you want with the designs, they're also carried on the backs of the long overcoats as well but I forgot to take shots of that (it's more a suggestion then the full design given the deep folds in the figures)

I actually think these shields are anachronistic for the period -- they are more 14th Century than 15th ... but many less wealthy MAA would have stuck to the old ways I think

  8. Super looking men at arms! I think your right about the shields but then we wouldn't have had your splendid heraldry and close enough is good enough!

  9. Thanks guys -- I'm a little worried about the English heraldry which seems to be heavy on quarter designs with multiple smaller sets of patterns!

  11. Thanks Kurt and Mike. I’m hoping to add some Front Rank siege artillery at a later stage, their wagons and such like are really high quality

  12. Excellent figures! Since the stunning shield designs are freehand I would'n t give a d** that they are not completely historical. They are marvellous!
