From RossM; 20mm DAK Support Weapons: (28 points)

Next finished pieces to show are additional support weapons for the D.A.K. started in the AHPC X.

The next two support stands for the D.A.K. from SHQ Miniatures include an 8cm Grw 34 mortar and crew plus a second MG34 because you can never have enough suppressive fire...

These were started during the AHPC X however where not completed in time to be shown there.

To follow these will be another infantry section and some more support for the poor bloody infantry.

These would be worth 28 points in the AHPC X

Running total is 88 of 500 points; 17.6% of the way there.

Thanks for visiting and hope you found something of interest.

Stay safe

Cheers for now.

KenR - More Uniformed Police

A few days ago I posted up the first set of figures for my Cops and Robbers casts for the 7tv game, here is the next group, the remainder of my uniformed officers.

I think I must have double order some stuff in the past as I have ended up with two Sgts, 2 marksmen and 2 WPCs (as they were known then). So the Sgt above has been done with a white shirt to differentiate between the two.

The above photo shows the second Police marksman a female officer and another Traffic Constable.

This Sgt looks so much more friendly than the one in the blue shirt. A total of 7 figures in this mini batch for another 35 points, slow and steady and up to 769 points.

Next up will be the cast of Life on Mars.

From Barks: Setting up a 3D printer

I am such a hobby butterfly. I really need a deadline so I can focus on one thing, or else I end up flitting from one unfinished project to another.

Last week I completed a Papuan stretcher bearer team, but I popped it up on my own blog first for Anzac Day, so it doesn't really count for the Challenge.

Papuan stretcher bearers from Eureka

My main hobby activity was assembling a 3D printer, a Creality Ender 3 (I'm using Cura for slicing). This is a very common printer with a big user population and hence lots of helpful videos and subreddits. I assembled and calibrated it in a few hours, and printed a 'Benchy': a standardised benchmark print of a cute tugboat that has a number of challenging features- overhangs and fine details etc.- that runs your printer through its paces.

Oh god, what have I got myself into?

Looks better!

Benchy!

I'm not yet planning to use it for figures or vehicles, but certainly scenery and boardgame accessories are on the printing queue. It is sitting happily in my living room at the moment, where I can hover over it like an anxious parent.

From RossM 28mm Gondorian Swordsmen (60 points)

First post of the Analogue Hobbies Quarantine Challenge and here twelve of Gondor's finest.

The swordsmen were originally purchased not long after the release of the Return of the King film in 2003/4 so they have waited a long time to see the business end of a brush.

Also included are a Captain, Denethor Steward of Gondor, a Standard Bearer and a veteran swordsman just behind the standard.

Throughout this challenge will be including a points total as I am looking to complete another 500 points worth of figures. This time, however, this will include previously started items as well as newly painted figures.

Have enjoyed painting these figures and there will be more of the same during this challenge along with a few other things from here and there.

Cheers for now

From TeemuL: War Hydra (35 points)

"I'm not sure if this is better or worse than the barrel with teeth!"
"This island is a nightmare, these dunes were quite nice last time we were here..."

Something from my Unfinished list. I guess I'm no ready for the Age of Sigmar campaign we had last summer, all the needed models are now painted. Better late than never, and I'm planning to use the same army on the next campaign as well. Curt was hoping something from my Fresh-list, but they need to wait the for the next post.

This is a War Hydra, originally by Dark Elves on the Old World, now part of the Anvilgard army fighting in the Mortal Realm of Aqshy. You can see the lava effect, done by Martian Ironearth put on red and yellow painted base. This was originally assembled by a friend of mine for WHFB and it was on square base and had some bits and pieces and bits of sprues on the base to support the beast. I removed the square base, glued it on a oval base and put some filler over the sprue bits to cover them. After covering that with paint and texture, it looks quite bubbling lava, not steady and dried. It doesn't show properly on the photos, though... (a little bit on the first one) I added the wound dice holders to the big base as well, by Warbases.

They have black and red uniforms, I added some yellow here and there and followed the same palette on the captured hydra as well. It mostly done on traditional painting, but I gave the Hydra itself a coat of Blood Angels Red over Red basecoat to create shading. I gave it minimal drybrush on the necks and kept it shiny, slimy on the other areas. Lots of drybrushing here, on the heads, teeth, claws, horns, scales and pretty much everything on the crew.

With this one finished, I have managed to keep my New Year Resolution provided by White Dwarf, at least one warscroll painted in a month.

One of hobby tasks for has been reading. I finished this oldish book about Age of Sigmar last weekend. I borrowed it from a friend, now I can return it. Quite nice story about the early events of Age of Sigmar with some battleplans and (now old) warscrolls. But it is worth the 60 euros, no.

From Curt: Siege of Malta, 1565 - Barbary Corsair Spearmen and a Archer Command Stand

Switching tack from the Grim Dark Future to the sun-kissed Middle Sea, I thought I'd finish off a few more figures for my 1565 Malta project which have been sitting half done since the winter Challenge.

Here are half a dozen spearmen to add to Turgut Reis' slowly growing contingent of fierce Barbary corsairs.

These are from Footsore Miniatures' excellent Caliphate range. Similar to my other efforts, I've had fun using a lot of colour with these guys. I may get another pack later to bulk-up the unit, but this group will stand as a good start.

The full unit of spearmen.
I also did up a command stand for one of my corsair archer units which was bereft of one.

The piper and standard bearer are from Brigade Games, while the leader is a Footsore model. I did a small modification to have him holding a crossbow along with a small targe, just to make him a little more distinct from his bow-armed comrades.

The archers with their new leader.
At first I just had the three figures on the base, but for a bit of additional colour, I decided to give them a banner as well (I figure you can't have enough flags on the tabletop).

These 9 models will give me another 45 points, for a grand total of 135.

Thanks for popping in for a visit!

-Curt

From MattT: A couple of salty types, VBCW

As i have based my militia in Humberside i wanted to inject a bit more of the sea into my militia. Searching around i found the Pulp Figures, savage seas range. Although a lot of the range is a bit too tropical, some of the figures will fit right in representing merchant navy and local fishermen.

I have now managed to muster enough to represent HQ section and  2 x 12 man sections.

Stay Safe, Matt

KenR - 28mm Italian Wars Artillery

A quick addition to the things that go boom in my Italian Wars Army. I found this gun and crew already undercoated in a box under a box in a cupboard I hadn't looked in for a while ! Heaven knows how much stuff is hidden around the Home of Yarkshire Gamer 😁

Thirsty Work !
The figures are from Wargames Foundry who do a few different gun and crew packs, they are old casts but like the Gendarme they very much stand up to today's more modern sculpts.

A quick 30 points taking me to 734 so far in Q Challenge, got some more Cops to post tomorrow.

From SimonG: More HYW Knights with a Herb Twist

While this one took a bit longer than anticipated - maybe I'm getting a bit ambitious in what I'm trying to take on now, it'll be good when I can switch on to masses of single colour English archers!

Anyway this stand (again in Impetus basing) is for Teodoro da Valperga and his companions. de Valperga was an Italian independent Captain who was present at Orleans and Patay. Most interesting is his coat of arms which comprises a hemp plant!

The knights are all Perry plastics as are three of the horses. The last horses (with the caparison) is from Front Rank.

I'm quite pleased with how these came out including the Croix de Lorraine on the guy in Blue and experimenting with an edging pen to outline details like the white cross on the guy in red.

One more stand of French knights to go but before then I have a couple of stands of billmen to complete and with that and a couple of stands of men at arms my French army will be finished.

From SanderS: More Rebel Scum! (21points)

Hoi There,

In the continued quest to finish all the Rebel figures for Star Wars Legion in the commission, I have now come to some Rebel Specialists. An Intelligence officer (his pips state he's a Commander) as well as two droids: a medical one and a R2 unit.

The Intelligence officer

The droids:

I really liked looking for a scheme for the R2 unit that wasn't main stream "white with a contrast colour" and luckily my client liked it too. The Medical Droid is just his boring old self modelled on the one in Empire. They do look like they are dancing "The Robot" don't they?

Cheers Sander

From GregB: Warhound Titans for Adeptus Titanicus

New Warhound titans from GW's Adeptus Titanicus - spare weapon options seen at the feet of the bases.
Some more machines for GW's "Adeptus Titanicus" - these are Warhound-class titans, multi-part plastic kits from GW. Each side of the Horus Heresy gets a new machine here - the grey and yellow titan serves with the loyalists of Legio Gryphonicus, while 30k geeks will probably already be familiar with the purple and red colours of Legio Mortis, who fight for the cause of the Warmaster.

Legio Mortis engine sporting twin plasma blast guns - these weapons are hard on the Warhound's reactor, but also very deadly to an enemy engine that has lost its void shields.
A mixed weapon load...mega bolter on the left "arm", and a laser blaster on the right "arm".
Twin flame cannons...probably an ineffective weapon loadout, but in the Horus Heresy there are some problems which can only be solved with lots and lots of fire...
The Warhound is the "smallest" of the battle titans that serve in the ranks of the Titan Legions of the Horus Heresy. They are sometimes called "scout titans", which is conceptually hilarious, but these machines are (relatively) lighter and faster than the other city-crushing titans. They can maneuver more deftly, and while their weapons are (again, relatively) "lighter" than those carried by the Reavers and Warlords, they are still dangerous - the Warhound is a real threat to enemy machines, even the larger chassis.

Legio Gryphonicus Warhound.
Warhounds are particularly dangerous in groups, and they can cooperate in pairs and groups of three machines, sharing their void shields and joining their firing together to cause serious damage to their enemies. I already had two Warhounds for each Legio in my collection, but a third Warhound for each side will help the "pack" reach a nice critical mass.

Twin mega bolters...this weapon variant is very, very dangerous to enemy void shields, although the weapons cannot do much damage once the shields are down. That's where the "pack" part come into play...
There is one special thing about these models that is a different from the Warhound models I built previously - I managed to magnetize the weapon mounts on these! My gaming friends, Curt included, are very smart with their use of magnets, but I am so clumsy with them. Magnets are an old hobby foe of mine, and efforts involving magnets often end in frustration and swearing. Some of the new Adeptus Titanicus models from GW are designed specifically to accommodate small magnets, and I usually manage OK with those. The Reaver and Warhound kits, however, were not designed specifically to use the magnets, so you either had to glue the weapons on, or come up with your own solution.

Here is a photo with the loyalist machine sporting the flame cannons.
I glued the weapons into place on my previous models, but Curt and others have shown that, with some clever modifications, the magnets can be used on models like these. I copied their approach, and I managed to get the little magnets to work!

This is great as these machines now have different weapons options - this is great for the players, as choosing weapons in a big part of the fun for the game. As you would expect, different weapon load outs offer different choices in tactics - for example, a Warhound equipped with "mega bolters" (i.e. huge, heavy calibre machineguns) on both weapon mounts will be very useful for bringing down enemy void shields. Or, perhaps a player will prefer to mount twin plasma cannons...not so great at shields, but more than able to deliver a killing blow once the shields of an enemy are down...

Magnets are also the only way I would ever bother with the giant flamethrowers - I'm not sure what value these weapons would really have in a game of "Adeptus Titanicus" - as opposed to a game of "Epic", where they could obliterate entire infantry companies in one pass - but thanks to the magnets, the players can choose to use them or not.

The newly expanded Warhound pack on the shelf with the rest of my loyalist collection...
The expanded Warhound pack of Legio Mortis...
I didn't have quite enough spare weapons to cover every possibility for both sides...the Legio Mortis side is short a laser blaster and a mega bolter, something I'll look into later. For now, it's great to have these new machines joining the ranks. Now if we could just get a game in somehow...

Thanks for reading, and stay safe out there!
